Petersen - Shaw handshake -
SeattleTree - 10-25-2015
Did anyone else catch the Petersen - Shaw post game handshake? It looked to me like Petersen never made eye contact and blew right by Shaw while Shaw was trying to say something to him. Is there pre-existing bad blood there? I didn't see anything happen during the game (that Shaw/Stanford did) that would have caused Petersen to be so upset.

I thought the same thing. I'm not aware of any history or anything that happened during the game that would have caused it.Â

I also had the same impression, but only Petersen can say for sure.

On the Scout UW board they are saying Shaw was a jerk to Petersen.

I strongly doubt it.

How does he think Shaw was a jerk? I agree w/ ferrari, but that doesn't mean Peterson couldn't feel that Shaw somehow dissed him.
I had noticed the handshake and thought maybe I was just imagining it.Â

Only specific thing I can think of relative to Shaw/staff -- and I know this is a stretch on the face of it -- is the chop blocks.
Or maybe he was just in a foul mood after realizing just how far he has to go to scale the mountain. After seeing a little bit of the replay on TV, he certainly looked to be in a foul mood on the sideline during the game (even in the first half).Â

This really surprises me, as both coaches heaped tons of praise on the other program throughout the week.

Sounds like a board full of sore losers.

Coach Pete is a good guy. I am sure he knew coming into Stanford with the win/loss record at home, backup QB, a late night game sitting around all day, was almost impossible to win. Then to get out muscled and have it drag on with TV timeouts prob wasn't ideal for him. Just a competitive guy.

Shaw's default facial expression does look slightly smug. I can see how opposing fans who aren't as familiar with him as we are would see him as being arrogant. Especially fans of a team who were just on the losing end.
I'm sure there are members of this board who know him personally, so you would obviously know better than I. But he doesn't strike me as arrogant at all. Just calm and in control.

N.D. fans (on the internet), for some reason, are really miffed by Shaw.

Because of the Washington game, or just in general?

Just in general. I think it dates back to Shaw's post-game comments (about the whistle from the stands) in 2012.

Basically everybody thinks eveybody else's coach is a jerk/arrogant/cheater/whatever. Seems to go with being a fan.
Still, the last one is pretty funny - combined with (after quoting that post),
"Maybe he is....he was tonight."
Acts? In particular last night?
What are they refering to - his gait while walking - his expressions (or lack thereof) - how he signals plays in?
Of course none of us know such things about any of these guys - unless you happen to actually know them.

I read that as "Maybe he is better . . . he was tonight."

Brian Kelly
Endangered a student manager on a scissor lift in a high wind which fell over and killed him
Joked about sexual assault of Lizzy Seeberg by one of his players; took no action against the player who assaulted her; deflected responsibility for disciplinary action to the University
Multiple examples of academic dishonesty by his players
David Shaw
Complained about phantom whistle in the stands (which others heard)
Which one is the better representative of his university?

Ahh. You are probably correct.
Obviously I had read it as, "Maybe he is that arrogant ... he was tonight."
Now I will chastise myself for being biased to think badly of an opponent poster.

I re-watched the handshake. It wasn't that bad. I would not call it warm, but it was not hostile. It was almost a half hug and Petersen even reached around and patted David's shoulder. Much ado about nothing IMO.
