I have no words for McCaffrey - Rally - 12-05-2015

None.  Finest performance I have seen in watching football.  He won't win the Voldemort because of regional bias, but man does he deserve it.  Most APY EVER in a single season (by hundreds;) fifth player in NCAA FBS history with 200 yds rushing and 100 yds receiving; killed the front runner in yds per carry by a significant amount; carried his Top 10 team; 1st Team Academic All American.  He is, simply, the best player in college football this year.  Shame on those who don't vote him number one.  Shame on those who who voted before the final games (reported as 10 - 15%) and especially shame who do to him what some did to Gerhardt . . . Leave him off their ballot.

And while I'm wound up, Hogan belongs in the Panteon of Stanford Quarterbacks.  He may have been more important to his team's than any other, including Luck and, I hate to say it, Plunkett.  The Plunkett and Elway teams depended on them throwing the ball.  Luck did much more than that and it's a close thing between him and Hogan.  But no one could have "replaced" Luck any better than Hogan did.  Next year's QB, regardless of who it is, has awfully big shoes to fill.

Thanks for an incredible season.

Ditto, Ferrari!  I think we will be #5 tomorrow when the CFP ratings are posted.  And that we are Rose Bowl-bound, playing either Iowa or Ohio State.  AWESOME!  What an amazing season, and C-Mac was electrifying to watch.  No complaints here...

I feel blessed to be a fan in the greatest era of Stanford Football.  So proud of this team, our coaches, and our staff.

Ditto here.  What a team what a coach what a season and I'll bet we are 5 also.

For those of us old enough to understand, the idea that we are playing 3 Rose Bowls in four years, behind the same quarterback, with our fourth Voldemort finalist in 6 years, is mind blowing.  I might be wrong about those .6 years but you get the drift.

Unimaginable in the late eighties when I was on the farm, and certainly in almost every other period.

Thanks for a remarkable season.

Re: I have no words for McCaffrey - OutsiderFan - 12-05-2015

My words:

Even more deserving of Voldemort than Toby Gerhart.  It would be a travesty if McCaffrey doesn't win it.  The ONLY thing he didn't do this year is return a punt for a TD.  But the stats, versatility, durability, and value to his team is off the charts.

1. CMac
2. Derek Henry
3. Deshaun Watson

This team is the finest representatives of our university that we could ask for. Thank you to the team and to all who made his happen.

He did return one against Central Florida, but it was called back because of a penalty.

In his postgame presser Shaw agreed with you. He said Hogan belongs on the Stanford Mt. Rushmore of quarterbacks, along with Plunkett, Elway, and Luck.

Re: I have no words for McCaffrey - amartinsu13 - 12-05-2015

Just saw ESPN tweet this out:

Conference titles for Stanford-
The 40 years before David Shaw took over: 3
The last 4 seasons: 3

Re: I have no words for McCaffrey - Leftcoast - 12-05-2015

If McCaffrey put up this year's numbers while wearing an Alabama jersey I think they would have just given him the trophy at the end of tonight's game.  #ECB

Re: I have no words for McCaffrey - BostonCard - 12-06-2015

McCaffrey had:
79% of our rushing yards
68% of our receiving yards
100% of our punt return and kickoff return yards

and for good measure
7% of our passing yards and 50% of our passing touchdowns

Just wanted to say, "Thank you."
Because it was that special this year.

Re: I have no words for McCaffrey - 81alum - 12-06-2015

I found this article about the reasons why McCaffrey should win the Voldemort quite interesting:

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2596208-christian-mccaffreys-Voldemort-statement-solidifies-stanfords-pac-12-dynasty

Quote:Even more impressive, he broke Hall of Famer Barry Sanders’ FBS record for all-purpose yards in the second quarter.  While the former Oklahoma State tailback accomplished the feat in two fewer games, McCaffrey did it in fewer touches.

That really puts it in perspective.  Like everyone else, I was in awe of McCaffrey but had bought into the meme that Barry Sanders' accomplishment was still not really equaled because he had taken fewer games to set his record.  But Christian took fewer plays than Sanders to set the record.  While Sanders has more yards per game, McCaffrey has more yards per play.

McCaffrey's accomplishment really is the equal of Barry Sanders, or surpasses it.

Re: I have no words for McCaffrey - stupac2 - 12-06-2015

I hadn't seen the part about McCaffrey getting fewer touches until the reddit thread about this. A lot of people were pointing out that return yards are cheap, but McCaffrey only have 11 (IIRC) more returns than Sanders. So it's basically that McCaffrey is a better receiver, Sanders a better runner. Really interesting.

Re: I have no words for McCaffrey - Rally - 12-06-2015

As I posted on th Macmeter thread, a repeat of this performance in the bowl game will have him ending with over 2,000 yards rushing and over 4,000 yards all purpose.  Just let that sink in.

Thank you for sharing. Brought tears to my eyes.
