Jake Raulerson Texas grad transfer -

Anyone know if Jake is considering Stanford? He has two years of eligibility left so he even if he has to sit behind Shuler for a year, he could still contribute.

He was on the Big 12 All Academic team.

Yes, he was offered and visited and sounds like we were under consideration but he committed early to Texas.

Good find. He'd be a much welcome addition to the roster, especially in light of Oser's medical retirement.Â

Yes, please!
He's a former 4-star recruit (2nd C in the country and 119th overall recruit per 247's composite rankings from that year; 11th DE in the country and 127th overall recruit per Rivals from that year). That he was a top recruit at both C and DE is nice evidence of his football IQ and athleticism.Â
Fingers crossed for his admission, but the fact that he graduated in 3 years from UT and was on the All-Big 12 academic team the last two years is a nice point in his favor. (The Big 12 All-Academic team doesn't list GPAs, though, so we're in the dark on that number--we just know that it was above a 3.2 because he was on the first team both this year and last.) Per the UT website (
http://www.texassports.com/news/2015/4/21/academics_0421154051.aspx), he was the male recipient of the "Academic Excellence & Spirit Award (given to student-athlete who stands out as achieving at very highest levels athletically and academically)," suggesting that his GPA was appreciably better than 3.2.Â
Looks like he already has a grad school offer from, you guessed it, Michigan. But you'd have to think that if he can get in, playing another couple of years at Stanford would be a pretty attractive option for a lineman who cares about academics and is also probably looking toward the NFL.Â

With Shuler's departure, I expect we'll hear more about Raulerson and whether or not he's a realistic option for a grad transfer. Per his twitter account, he took a visit to Michigan and is taking one to UCLA, but you'd think the possibility of starting for us would be attractive.Â
And apparently we came in second to UT the first time around (with comfort and the ability to enroll early factoring into things), so perhaps he's thinking he can have a do-over on that decision.Â
I know his experience isn't with us, but you'd have to think he'd be in the mix to start if he can get admitted and get on campus soon.

I think our ability compete on timeframe and certainty with UCLA and Michigan for transfers is limited. We can't take a mid-year transfer, can we? UCLA and Michigan could probably take him in time for spring ball? Meanwhile, he would still be waiting to hear from admissions at Stanford.

Grad school doesn't restrict applicants to fall entry only, does it?

Since Raulerson is a graduate transfer, it goes without saying that he has to graduate before he can start at his new school. As I understand it, he's graduating in May, so he can't practice anywhere else until the summer, which means Stanford is on a level playing field. Whether he wants to come to Stanford and whether he can get the degree he wants at Stanford is a different story. We'll see.

Center is a hard position to learn as it typically involves making line calls. I'd be very surprised to see a transfer come in with no experience in Stanford's offense and only 1 year of eligibility left and earn the starting role.

I think I read that he has two years of eligibility left.

We do have an experienced center returning, right? Not the starter but plenty of snaps. It's not like we're looking at a true freshman.

Caspers started at G this year and moved to C on short-yardage plays. He is listed on the roster as G/C. I'd bet on him to start at center in the fall.

He's going to UCLA.

I saw a quote from him saying his top 2 choices were Stanford and Michigan, but that he didn't think he could get into either MBA program.

It would be interesting to see someone play Stanford football while enrolled at the business school.

Bummer. He'd have been a good add.

My recollection is that B school really wants its applicants to have some work experience first.

Not in my day but tru now. And, of course, they really don't care if applicants don't have work experi nice. They only care about the ones they admit :)

Yes; Business School is as much about contacts and networking as it is about lectures and someone without work experience doesn't bring as much to the table as someone who has been out there in the real world. That being said, he could have gotten a Masters in Management Science and Engineering from the School of Engineering if he wanted to develop some skills useful in business. I think that's ehat Scarlett did.

Worst of both worlds: We don't get Jake, and we'll have to play against him.
