Big Visit? - stanfan - 01-09-2017

Anyone know who (other than those already publicly committed) will be attending the Big Visit?  Thanks in advance for any info you can provide.

Re: Big Visit? - JohnR34231 - 01-09-2017

Leonard Warner (LB from Georgia) will be there I believe.

Re: Big Visit? - kuz - 01-09-2017

Connor Wedington (RB)
Dalyn Wade-Perry (NT)
Ryan Johnson (DE)
Leonard Warner (ILB)
Paulson Adebo (CB)

That would be a great close to the class if we could land all of them and it would bring us more positional (defensive players!) and racial diversity than our current commits.  We have heard Wedington and Adebo have cleared admissions.  Let's hope the others do as well. Is Chaz Ah You still in the mix?

No, per kuz's comment on the Class of 2017 thread. (I caused a bit of thread-mixing, sorry about that.)

What about Levani Dumani?

According to Connie Francis, Dumani never comes.

Forgot about him. He'll be there too, though he's LDS so effectively a 2019 recruit.

Re: Big Visit? - larkinforever - 01-11-2017

Connor Wedington (RB) - apparently Parkinson, Mills, Little and Sarell (among others) will be all over Wedington during BV. He said he's waiting until NSD, but maybe?

Did Paulson Adebo (CB) gain admission or did he just (finally) get an offer?

Any reason to believe these guys will receive the big envelope during BV? (Presumably they've all applied by this late date...)

http://notredame.247sports.com/Article/BREAKING-4-star-CB-Paulson-Adebo-de-commits-from-Notre-Dame-50402640

"Stanford is the favorite here. Irish247 is told that he has been offered and was accepted into [the] school."

According to this, he's in. That's the only official source - every other article on the decommitment (that I've seen, anyway) has referred back to this one.

Re: Big Visit? - Bruce Wang - 01-12-2017

IIRC there's a rule that recruits must get admitted before they can attend the Big Visit?

Is this a relatively new rule? I recall recruits in the past receiving their notification while on the big visit

Now that you mention it, I remember that too.  What I remember is that some recruits got uninvited prior to the Big Visit.  So maybe it's either you are admitted or you will get a Big Envelope?  Or is it you've been admitted, you will get a Big Envelope, or you have not received a small envelope?

Re: Big Visit? - FarmBoy - 01-12-2017

Is racial diversity really an issue of consideration for football recruiting? And are we lacking on the team overall? I've never seen this raised as an issue.

Never has been an issue because Stanford has always had good diversity, but when 9 of your first 10 commitments are white there could be an issue if the rest of the class had lack of diversity.

Do you think non-white players will be less likely to sign onto this class or future classes if there isn't more diversity? Or does it hurt team performance in 2017 or beyond?

9 out of 10 seems surprisingly high and I can imaging that some non-white athletes may feel less comfortable joining a class that doesn't look like themselves. But it also seems likely to be an anomaly and will regress to the mean in future years. Pretty surprising stat though.

I believe that some students have gotten the thumbs down from admission and then uninvited to the visit, because at that point what is the point?

There have been cases of kids on the visit who then apparently did not get admitted later, sometimes just barely later.

My understanding is that the staff would like to have admissions decisions in before the visit, particularly the big January visit, but it's not a rule and not always the case.

... or I'm wrong. Haven't followed that closely.

Re: Big Visit? - larkinforever - 01-12-2017

Seems like true uncertainty about admission is the most likely reality - if a recruit were to show up for BV without having heard one way or the other (but in a reality where it was known that they would've been rejected prior to showing up if they were going to be rejected), then there wouldn't be nearly the "excitement" about the big envelope since it would already be known by virtue of being able to show up on campus. But in recent years I remember lots of Twitter excitement about receiving the big envelope during BV.

In any case, in addition to big envelope tweets, I sure hope we see some "I'm committed" tweets during BV from the defensive side of the ball...

Re: Big Visit? - Hank 91 - 01-12-2017

The admissions necessity some might be remembering is that Stanford won't allow a recruit to sign a letter of intent without having been admitted. This one of the reasons why athletes receive early admission rather than waiting until April when most of the rest of the class is admitted.
