Mills -
BostonCard - 10-30-2017
Given that Mills was the offensive scout team player of the week, it stands to reason that he has recovered from his knee injury.

Doesnt mean he will play and it seems silly to burn his redshirt at this point of the year, BUT, he could if necessary.

I understand Mills was on the traveling squad in Corvallis.  Which further says to me Costello wasn't going to play.

OK Bob, I'll bite :). Why does that say Costello wasn't going to play? Certainly he was there and in uniform. Pretty safe bet that Mills isn't playing instead. So obviously, I am missing something. Can you enlighten me?
Re: Mills -

Since we are limited in how many players can travel (70, I think), my guess is that Mills doesn't dress unless there's a reasonable expectation that he would have to serve as emergency back-up. He wouldn't have been flown up and taken one of the 70 travel spots just to be the fourth string QB.

Travelling with the team might be the reward for being the scout team player of the week.

Yes, but Costello was also there and dressed. He would presumably be one of the 70, since he dressed. Burns was also there, as I recall from the announcers(?), although I don't personally remember seeing him on TV.

I remember seeing both Burns
and Costello throwing as the second half got started. I don't recall seeing Mills throwing, though.

Has Mills or other QBs of the future not travelled before? Given the leadership nature of the position, I can see the staff justify bringing a 4th string QB for the learning opportunity.

I will await tomorrow's press conference. ð
Yes Mills traveling may mean little. Or??? Stay tuned

Reading between Bobs notoriously opaque lines... tomorrow Shaw may declare Mills the starter at WSU. Or not.

How is travelling to Corvallis a reward... :P
Re: Mills -

Alternate hot take:
Mills travelled because Shaw was planning to burn Mills' redshirt to get him some game-time experience because Shaw expected a blowout; Mills didn't play because the game was close and Shaw wasn't ready to put the game in the hands of a true freshman. However, this suggests that when Shaw changes QB's, it will be to Mills and not Costello, because right now Mills is our best quarterback.

I'd stick with reward and also showing him game experience at OSU. it won't be his last time there.
on traveling, dressing and assuredly not playing, Casey Tucker. big question is to which school he transfers to. we've played what 10 or 11 OL this year.

Maybe we'll see the advent of the Mills Package, much like the Hogan Package etc. in past seasons. (I don't expect that this season, but maybe it's what BobK is hinting at!)
Re: Mills -

I hope the "Mills Package" includes playing consistent, high-level PAC-12 quarterback.

That take is Carolina Reaper hot. But Bob wouldn't be talking about this if there weren't some fire there...
Re: Mills -
washingtonismoney - 10-30-2017
That'd be a reckless redshirt burning on Shaw's part.

unless the staff assessment is that there is a only small chance he'd be around for a 5th year......
