Shaw gives injury update: - washingtonismoney - 11-14-2017

Love made it out OK from the UW game; Schultz and Wedington questionable; Little likely out until bowl game.

I thought I saw Reid shaken up. So is he ok?

Re: Shaw gives injury update: - jacketree - 11-14-2017

Didn't Reid go back in after getting bowled over at the goal line?

Yes, Reid was back in.

Re: Shaw gives injury update: - CTcard - 11-14-2017

Running down the group.

Obviously Love is critical.
Hamilton has played pretty well in relief of Little, better than he was playing early on. Still nervous, but perhaps okay here.
Schultz is easily our best blocking TE right now. Big loss. Less of an issue as a pass catcher.
I'd like to see Wedington more involved, but as things stand at the moment it won't crimp our offense that much.

Reid came back into the UW game after his injury. Somewhat surprising considering the length of time he was down.

I agree Hamilton has looked better the last few weeks than earlier this year.  Still curious why we went so many plays--especially late in the game--with Bright & Fanaika on the left side & Hamilton out.  I was worried he was hurt, but obviously not.  Change of pace based on what the coaches wanted to run?  Adjustment to something UW was doing?

Not sure, but something to look at on the tape.
I don't remember just when or how often we went with that lineup. It could be that in trying to run clock late, Bloomgren feels the Bright-Fanaika combo run blocks better than Hamilton-Bright.

And he looked a bit late to the play on that last TD, which was right after he came back in.

I think he was also beaten on the two point conversion.  But hard to be sure what the assignment was.

Re: Shaw gives injury update: - FarmBoy - 11-14-2017

Raises the question (maybe worth it's own thread, but what the heck) - who is the most indispensable player on offense and defense (aside from Bryce Love and Horrible Harry).

My vote on the offense is JJAW. He is our only real down the field threat the past several games. WIthout him, I think we lose a couple of more games at least if not have a losing record overall. He took some hits Friday that made me nervous for his health.

On defense, I'm not sure there's a clear choice. I would have said Holder, before he went down. It's between Okereke, Reid, and Meeks. I guess I'll go with Okereke as we have little enough QB pressure as it is. Without him, opposing QBs might have all day long.

Re: Shaw gives injury update: - BostonCard - 11-14-2017

I think Meeks > Holder.  Helps to have a little t of depth in the backfield, though the drop off to Buncom was noticeable (though he led the team in tackles against UW).

I would vote Okereke, especially given that Barton is out. Even with Perez improving in recent weeks, the ILB corps after Okereke is... not great.

I'd vote Costello after Love, but I hear what you are saying about JJAW.

And, is it just me, or does Weddington look like he is 14.  That kid has a baby face, makes me feel like he'll be even better when he looks more grown :)

You’re right, BC. It was the conversion I was thinking about.

Shaw was quite effusive in his praise of Buncom today, notwithstanding the missed tackle for loss on Gaskin (I think)

Re: Shaw gives injury update: - donkey687 - 11-14-2017

Buncom has been nickel most of the year. Murphy has replaced Holder as CB opposite Meeks. Certainly a drop off from Holder, but not as much as last year. Murphy seems improved.

And also the pass interference (looked ok from the stands, but the people who had access to the replay noted it was a good call).

On a play like that I don’t have a problem with a PI.  He was trying to time his arrival and was a scoche early; that’s different than getting beaten cleanly and pass interfering as a desperation way to prevent a big completion.

Re: Shaw gives injury update: - SamuelMcF - 11-14-2017

Is Alexander back yet? Having an extra capable nickel/3rd corner would be useful against kal.

I liked seeing Buncom's improvement. Big step up from earlier in the season.

Re: Shaw gives injury update: - donkey687 - 11-14-2017

Alexander has not played. I hope he redshirts as he hasn't redshirted yet. We could use him next year especially if Meeks goes pro.  I was hoping for the same thing with Branch but he is back on the lineup and will be out of eligibility after this season.

Re: Shaw gives injury update: - needle - 11-14-2017

Branch has another year of eligibility. I've enjoyed watching him on special teams.

In other words, who is the second most indispensable player on offense and defense?

I don't think there is a clear choice on offense. I am happy to go with JJAW, but would not at all like to see Bright go out.

On defense, while Okereke is probably our second best player now I think there are options at ILB. I'd go with Meeks. The backfield cannot take our two best corners out.
