Only one signee from California? Seems odd to me.

As noted in the pinned post, Hollifield chose Va Tech.

Extremely easy to explain. He wanted to stay close to home family and girl friend.  It happens. Sadly for us

Even with the 2-year Mormon mission, McKee (#3 QB) is a great get over 30 other schools.Â
As starting QB for Corona Centennial (always in Calif state playoff mix) that is like a JUCO transfer; you face other 4star players.
We have Costello and Mills lined up, so better that McKee arrives in 2020. Fine. We have NFL caliber QB potential thru 2023.
Looks like:Â WASH or U$C, then OREG and UCLA, and Stanford #5 in rankings, but we are getting some of the players we need, like T.Booker at DE.
Hollifield at LB is a clear miss, but his posts sound like he wanted to stay within driving distance of home (Family, classmates... girlfriend?).
But perhaps Jacob Mangum-Farrar, as a quick study, is the next Okereke. Anderson seems high on him.Â
Last year was a BIG class, so perhaps Shaw has fewer spots.Â

No. The 2017 class also had 14 in it. The difference is that class was ranked #19 - with 10 4 & 5 star prospects - and the 2018 one is ranked #76 - with just four 4 star prospects - according to Rivals rankings. If you put any stock in recruiting rankings, this is a very large downgrade of a class from 2017, with the same number of signees.

Makes you wonder this year...was it slacking in recruiting by coaches....lack of athletes available...or too many we let slip away? hmm

Is high school football that much better in the South? What makes football in Florida so great? This year, 9 of the 33 five star players on Rivals are from Florida, with another 5 from Georgia. California does have 5, North Carolina and Texas have 2, and no other state has more than 1.
Each year, it seems that the South is the mecca for talent. Is that really the case? Thoughts? Theories? Does Jimmy the Greek's inebriated hypothesis all those years ago actually hold water?
