We should hear at today's press conference.

A prediction (based on nothing but my gut):
Costello: out
Mills: something along the lines of "questionable" or "day to day"
I put the odds of Mills playing at about 50%.

Do they stream those press conferences anywhere?

They seem to show up on Youtube a lot, not in real time.

My strong guess Mills starts. We shall see

According to Shaw, Mills is not even practicing yet. And Toner is out for the season.

Ouch. And, after 7 games in the season, Toner can't even save this year of eligibility and come back next year. When it rains, it pours.
Hopefully, KJ will be ready. We've already seen the West-ern. Not quite ready for the sequel this Saturday.

Toner is a RS Junior and has 1 more year of eligibility. He redshirted as a frosh during Ukropina's 5th year. I think ideally the plan is for incoming frosh Karty to do the same next season.

OK, thanks for the info. That is at least some positive news. I thought he was a senior in terms of eligibility.

The Stanford defense is probably going to have to win this game.
I actually think they can keep Zona under 20 points, which is probably what it would take to pull off a victory.

There's a reason Jack West was third string, and we saw it against UCLA. Having said that, if/when JW does play versus UA, I expect that he will play better than he did last Thursday.

Agree on both counts. However, the fact that West didn't "pass" Mills and Costello doesn't mean he isn't good and has no talent. It just means he doesn't have enough talent to pass two guys with more years in the program. Last week, he had no time at all to throw and usually no open receivers. Hopefully, this week he will, and we can then better judge his ability.

Yes, but from all appearances, it was a serious leg or knee injury to his kicking leg. It may be harder than usual to come back from that - there isn’t much precedent, so it’s hard to know.
He was reportedly crying on the cart to the locker room, knowing that his season (and maybe his career) was done - pretty sad to hear.

Toner looked to be planting his right foot to counter the blocker slamming into him on his left. He got launched sideways but all that force went though his right foot, knee, leg, and hip first.

If it's West then call the bookie and boldly go where no Stanford fan has ever been before.

Sounds like it's time for Ryan Sanborn to step up and for us to hope that West's 2nd game is a whole lot better than his first.

Why not give Richardson a start if it comes to that? He looked pretty darn good to me in spring ball and he most certainly earned his Rudy moment. Hopefully West will continue to develop and have a successful go at it, but until he sorts things out, is there any downside in trying Richardson really?

There is no sense hoping for someone other than West. Shaw is, how to say this, deliberate in his QB decisions.
Not saying he doesn’t get it right, eventually, or even that he’s wrong (after all, he’s got a TON more info and expertise than we do). But to try to make sense if his QB decisions over the years as a fan is maddening!
