Shaw's post-game comment -

"...I think the big thing for us obviously we are shorthanded and we became more shorthanded during the course of the game,” Stanford coach David Shaw said.
“That being said, we fought back to make it a game. ... We were good enough to hold them and make the game close.”
Uh, coach, you just lost a game 49-22 and you opponent finished you off with 24 unanswered points. Please define "close".

I think what he meant was that we were down 19-0 early, amd managed to close to 25-22 late in the third quarter.
If you say what happened during the rest of the game made that comment a bit of a stretch, I agree with you.

He was referring to it being close for a time, not at the end.
His unforgivable lack
of precision with the language continues to be a fireable offense.
If Shaw organized a funeral procession, you would show up just to boo.

I heard most of Shaw's postgame presser and once again I didn't hear any mention of coaching (or S&C/training staff). I heard a lot about penalties, execution errors, poor tacking, etc. I'm sick and tired of Shaw throwing his team under the bus. Right or wrong, he must put responsibility on his & his staff's shoulders as well as the players.

Speaking of throwing a team under the bus, why don't Leach's players ever play "fat, dumb, and lazy" when they go up against us?
Leach, unsurprisingly, had nice things to say about them after this one.

Personally I would take a change in Defensive Coordinators. The defensive plan was awful, and we seemed unwilling to try something else. We proved time and time again that with 3 men rushing, our 8 could not cover their 5. I never noticed anything resembling any kind of adjustment. Once we got behind we had no chance to catch up with them scoring on every possession. Utah held them to 13 points I think. What did they do we didn't do? Are their guys that much better than ours?

Played in Utah, had a fully-healthy defense (i.e. not starting walk-ons), and effectively rushed the passer without bringing extra pressure.

Yes. Defense littered with NFL-caliber seniors (especially on the DL, hence the aforementioned effective pass rush) that came back because they knew this would be their year.

I can't imagine Shaw replacing both coordinators. If you had a choice between the two which one do you get rid of? For me that's a no brainer - Fanboy Hero has to go.

Our defense was crippled with injuries.
Having said that, you would think we would have learned to play against Wazzu's Air Raid better than we have. Every year we get torched.

I wonder if you compared recruiting rankings whether WSU offensive players were any higher rated than the people we had on the field.

They almost never are, no matter what Pac-12 defense they're playing. (Except maybe Oregon State and Arizona.) Mostly mid-3* and Juco guys. The system makes them look really good. Even more so for USC now, since their receivers are all studs - combine that with the Air Raid and it makes their freshman qb look amazing.

You can't be serious about calling for Lance Anderson's head. The defense has tried to keep this program afloat through all the offensive woes, and they will break down under prolonged opponent possessions if not rested during Stanford's offensive possessions. In addition, the defense has lost Adebo, our star cornerback, for the season, so you can expect the defense to be playing down yet another man for the next two games. Injuries and no rest -- definitely a double whammy for any defense.

Not a fan of Leach, but his tirade last week certainly seemed to get his kids attention. Perhaps an occasional teeny tiny bit of emotion might actually help Shaw. . . .
What are the odds that Coach Shaw will do one of these...?

In situations where a coach has lost it and is turning blue in the face, as a player it's hard not to laugh. There is so much nervous tension. Laughter is a common reaction in this situation. But, you know if you laugh he will completely melt down and single you out. So you try not to make eye contact and reach down and pinch yourself real hard. If you can't hold it back you have to put your hands in your face and act like your crying. I've been in similar situations as a player, but I was never the one that laughed.

Granted I don't personally know the coach or have any connection to the team, I'd have to wager pretty much zero.

Leach tirades are absurd. And would not be accepted at Stanford. So please spare me. I’m always amazed at the post game press conference psychological profiling that goes on. He’s a freaking football coach. They lost a freaking football game. What do you expect him to do commit Sepukku.
