I’m looking forward to knowing who is on the brutal schedule!
I’m guessing we’ll see some combination of South Carolina, Baylor, Tennessee, and Texas.
That being said, I’d love to see someone like NC State, Florida Gulf Coast, Iowa, or some other fun teams out there. I think we’ll struggle this year with teams with great guards more so than posts, and Caitlin Clark or Kierstan Bell would be a good challenge for us.

Just watched Tara's ESPY speech. She didn't look as healthy as in the past. Hope she is doing okay.

Anna Wilson ensures that we won't have trouble against teams with great guards. She takes point guards completely out of their games.
last year, she held her matchups, who averaged 17.4 points per game, to 8.7 a game. Our trouble was with bigs.

And our defense against bigs should improve substantially this year. Most importantly, Cam is a year older and smarter. She will still be aggressive, but showed considerable progress over the course of year about what it takes to keep out of foul trouble. I expect this to be priority #1 in terms of coaching and personal development this year. Ashten will not get any quicker, but she too has learned to use body position and better timing for shot blocking to be more effective on defense. I'd love for her to find just another 3-4 inches of hops. A potential brobdingnagian defensive plus is Kiki Iriafen. She is an athletic, long all-around talent who has the potential to be an elite defender. She may surprise us with her rebounding, quickness and potential to make things happen all over the court.
Also, don't forget that Lexie and Lacie were often our most effective defenders against bigs, with their extremely quick and aggressive double-teams often disrupting opponent post players leading to dozens of steals, tie-ups and general frustration for opponent bigs.
Since we didn't lose anyone over 5'8" from last year's team, we can only be better on defense against the bigs.

My understanding of Jordan Hamilton as a player is that she is a great defender. So I am going to assume that she is at least as good if not better than Williams in that department. Plus Iriafen has the potential to be very good defensively along with Belibi, Prechtel and Brink getting better too. So I think assuming we are the same or better than last year is a safe assumption.
The big question mark is who is going to replace Williams scoring and specifically dribble penetration and 3 point shooting

My big concern is: who is going to bring up the ball?
As I recall, those duties were performed primarily by Kiana Williams and Haley Jones last year. Kiana is gone and Haley has been turnover prone. I don't recall seeing Anna bringing the ball up much last year. Jana, when she brought up the ball, had her issues, especially with the 10 second calls.

I recall only one ten-second call, as well. That, and two times early in the season, when she had her pocket picked. But that’s part of the baptism of a freshman player. She must have learned her lesson, because I don’t recall another such turnover. Tara even trusted her to play briefly in the Finals. My money is on Jana to play the lion's share of PG. She really keeps her eyes peeled when streaking down the court and she's strong, but we will see who gets the call.

So, I guess it's either Anna, or Jordan, or Jana. Not a bad problem to have, methinks.

Don’t forget Jenna Brown. In spite of her injury and rehabilitation, she stayed in close contact with the team throughout the last season.

Regarding Jana, keep in mind that Tara has referred to her as our most accurate 3-pt shooter — including Hannah — at least in practice. If she can create off the dribble a little, hit the open long ball and build on her excellent passing skills, she is going to get a lot of time. I think her quickness (and by extension her defensive ability) will determine her ceiling.
We probably shouldn’t count out either Lacie or Hannah as a potential backcourt starter either and certainly as central parts of the rotation, depending upon how big we go. Of course, Haley can be a guard and bring the ball up, but that may not be the best use of her skills and energy.

And remember: PT begets confidence, begets better play.
Thus, I have little doubt that Stanford will be competent (at least) at PG position, bringing the ball up and getting things going offensively. But there's a delta between competent and what Ki brought to the table during her time on the Farm. Her combo of dribble penetration, pull-up mid-range game, and good shooting from behind the arc was quite a package. I don't think that skillset is on the roster; therefore, I expect less dribble penetration from guard position, more emphasis on post player scoring (though not necessarily in the low block) in half court sets, and perhaps continued emphasis on getting out in transition (so half-court O may not have to rely on dribble-penetration to get a shot off against stout half-court defenses).
The Stanford WBB team should be very good to excellent . . . at least a shot to defend. And that's pretty exciting.

Thanks. That worked. Not sure why the built-in Attachments utility didn't work.

Agree regarding Lacie and Hannah. Don't sleep on either of them!
We may see a team that doesn't play with a true PG. Tara could instead go with the 5 that play best together and in a certain way, and bring the ball up by committee. We could assume that 4 of the spots are locked (Anna, Lexie, Haley, Cam). We know Haley can bring it up if need be. So "who's the 5th?". IMO, Lacey is the most versatile of the bunch. She can bring it up, defend, attack, rebound and she has more experience. While I am a fan of the other players mentioned, think Lacie could be the better choice with the other 4 starters vs. more of a specialty player.
Also Tara loves the competitiveness of the twins. What coach wouldnt? :) I can recall her mentioning that in scrimmages, if she put the twins on the same team, that team would win.

I don't assume that our decision, in any given game, as to who brings the ball up will be determined by who's on the court for us, but who is on defense for our opponents. Depending on the defender, any of Anna, Lexie, Lacie, Jana, Jenna, or Haley could be the choice.
