No David Bailey yet?

I'm pretty impressed with the tape of ILB Matt Rose. Great nose for the ball.
TE Sam Roush is early enrolling so he can hit the weight room and learn the playbook so he can "play a couple of snaps" his freshman year. That's impressive. Great attitude with no sense of entitlement. He could become a great blocking TE.
WR Mudia Reuben is going to be our fade receiver in the future. Maybe sooner than later since he is coming in early too!
I've got a feeling that Pat Caughey is going to be a mean and tough SOB on the d-line. That's what we really need. BTW, he comes right out and says he wants to play in the NFL. That tells me he's willing to put in the hard work to get to that level.

I'm not saying Stanford recruiting is identical to what goes on in many places, but the new landscape has ripple effects among 17- and 18-year-olds that are far reaching. It's really hard to predict what will happen when it comes to these decisions.

shows now, indicate LOI received 8:11am PT (look at table not card view), west coast players generally later than east coast (first one of those was received at 4:05am PT)
table view also has a link to a bio on each player

Bailey's a big time recruit, no doubt. There were reports of USC trying to woo him last minute.
Excited to see what he can do, apparently as an early enrollee.

I count 20 recruits signed as of 10am PST.
Anyone know if more are expected?
From 247's list, there are 21 "hard commits" for Stanford
Looks like a safety, Collin Wright, is on the 247 list but yet to sign. Really unclear if he's still considering other schools.

Thanks for the missing. Just one unless Edwards needs to sign again

I had forgotten about Edwards (sorry!). Here's a write-up on him:

Lucas Heyer seems like an O lineman that plays with a chip on his shoulder. Let's hope he brings back intellectual brutality to our O line.

So did Branson Bragg. He didn't develop into a dominant player for Stanford. Neither did Walker Little or Foster Sarell for that matter.

Walker Little was a dominant player as a true freshman, pre-injury.

Only after starting with Little at RT and Sarrell - a player that ended up at Guard - at LT, rather than starting with Little at LT from day one. It was a baffling decision that was the beginning of me really calling the coaching staff's judgment into question. I don't trust the coaching staff's judgment on much of anything today.

Getting the horses is one thing. It's what you do or don't do with them that counts. THIS is one of many issues I have with the current administration. As for any absence of insurrection, not sure whether it signals resignation or fealty. I'd feel a helluva lot better if I knew there were a few firebrands on this roster channeling Shane Skov. Cannot imagine that kid swallowing 3-9 and not puking it up.

There is an old saying that no one can win without talent but not everyone can win with it.
With classes like this we should certainly be able to hold our own in the Pac-12.
If we can't there is definitely something the matter.

I calculated yesterday that, with this class, our average recruiting rankings for the last 6 years (2017-2022) is at around 25. With superior player development, S&C, coaching and strategy, the results on the field should be top 25 or better. Clearly, we do not have superiority in those crucial areas right now.
This class is one of the strongest in the last decade. If the top prospects from 2022 do not pan out, then it's a waste of talent. At last calculation, the Stanford 2022 class is #14 in the nation and #1 in the Pac-12, with Utah some 30 points behind in 2nd. This should be a pivotal moment in a 2-3 year turnaround process. Only time will tell.

IIRC Chambers delayed his enrollment to go on his church mission, which would have made him just a tad older than most college freshmen.

My point was Little really only meaningfully contributed to Stanford for that one season. His Soph season he was injured in the first game and missed the season. Then he opted out of Covid year to prepare for draft. He could have been great for Stanford but he didn't even play one full season.
Anyway, nobody commented on David Shaw's signing day press event, so I will.
Shaw did a fantastic job. The reporters did not cover themselves in glory, however.
In his opening remarks Shaw said all the typical stuff about the players in the class, notably claiming he believes Stanford signed the best TE class in the country, regardless of rankings. Also thinks David Bailey should be ranked higher. Speaking of Bailey, he's the only guy for whom there was no individual introduction video. Kind of odd considering he is the headliner of the class.
Shaw also said this season was not them and it won't happen again. He didn't make any excuses. Just said "that is all behind us and we won't see that again." I'm guessing he probably has said the same thing to his bosses.
The most interesting things discussed IMO, were a product of Troy Clardy's questions. Specifically, he asked about transfer portal and early entries. Shaw then took that question and added early visits on to his answer. It was the most insightful part of the event, IMO.
Basically Shaw said early entries had to be addressed, not just for football, but other sports. So all the campus constituencies got together, studied how it could be done, and agreed on a framework for allowing them. Part of the rationale is if you've over achieved in High School, why shouldn't you be welcomed to Stanford early? So while at football factories, your ability to play the game drives your ability to enroll early, at Stanford, its that, plus your scholastic achievement, as it is for regular admittance as an athlete.
Then, as it comes to earlier official visits - which I believe is the most critical factor in Stanford being able to compete in recruiting - the school also decided that they would allow early official visits only to recruits who had "made enough academic progress that they would have a realistic shot to be admitted" were they to apply. Reading between the lines, I think this might mean also having to have requested an application and maybe even started it to some degree. So now the recruit is told about the Stanford process, knowing that they can come for a free official visit before they commit, but they must have checked off a few academic prerequisites to show serious Stanford interest before they do. I think this is smart, fair, and will lead to more recruiting success, including better alignment between Stanford recruits. I have always thought there were a few players each year who would have signed with Stanford had they been able to visit before committing/signing. This new visit approach won't miss them.
On the transfer portal, Shaw sees disaster this coming year as a result of the extra year of eligibility for Covid year. He believes there are a lot of guys in the portal who won't be playing football due to the squeeze of early enrollees, or won't be playing at the level they prefer.
Where the reporters failed was nobody asked Shaw a single solitary question about what went wrong this year or anything about how he intends to change anything to turn things around. I mean he made some pretty bold statements about this not happening again, and not a single question about how it won't. It was almost like they were afraid to ask. And no reporter from Chronicle or Merc, from what I could tell. Not even Wilner, who probably would have been the only one to ask the tough questions.
One observation after looking at all the videos. LB Matt Rose is my favorite recruit in the class. He has the fire to be that "Skov type" y'all have been clamoring to see. He is a 4-year starter type that you can build your program on, IMO.
