Amazing story.  What a treasure is Cameron Brink.

She plays much taller than her 6'4" height.  She must have longer arms than most women.

I really note her fiery emotions.  Last weekend I finally watched the Colorado game featuring the double-foul.  Yes, in the 2nd half she helped Mya to her feet.   But I also noticed after the game when the team was celebrating Cam was repeated waving "playfully" . . . I believe towards Colorado.   Fran Belibi pulled down Brink's hand, shook her head, and said something.  I assume a bit of "hey hey hey goodbye"???

Great story. Thanks. As I posted a number of times last year, Brink will be the face of US WBB. She's tall with very long arms, protects the rim, can score with the best under the basket, but also runs like a deer, can handle and shoot the mid range jumper. And, the camera loves her.

This year, she has worked on her 3 pt shot, is stronger, and is fouling just a little less. She still needs to work on her strength, including hands, and upper body and mid range and distance shots. And, the camera still loves her.

Well, there's a player on the East Coast who has the backing of a worldwide promo machine that will make it tough for Brink to become THE face of WBB. Perhaps in the pros, but I got sense college players get more visibility at the moment.

Another stellar story from David Kiefer. He's a great asset to the department.

yeah, but what's a writer like him doing in a gin joint like that?
If you just post "new David Kiefer story" with a link and no other info, I'd click the link and read it.

Yes, great story!  And congrats to Kate Paye for that award.  Nice to see her get recognized by her peers.

I agree that's a possibility, and Kaitlin Clark is a pretty good Curry look alike, but Brink is alone among the bigs. Boston is great but she doesn't have the possibility of becoming a verrrryy tall player with wing like skills. And, none of them have the camera skills of Brink.

Boston is actually taller than Brink and they have fairly comparable outside shooting numbers (13/42 for Boston; 8/23 for Brink), and both have taken so few shots it's hard to extrapolate too much about how viable they will be as outside shooters in the W. Boston also leads in points, blocks, rebounds, and has fewer turnovers and fouls. I think Boston often gets away with murder, and being foul-proof definitely makes the rest of one's game easier.  But I will say, as much as I love what Brink does, Boston is about as good as any big post player I've seen in college basketball since (ironically) A'ja Wilson.

The last truly dominant center in women's college basketball was Griner, IMO. Wilson, Boston, and Brink are very, very good, but Griner was dominant.

RE: Cameron Brink story. It’s awesome - fullmetal - 03-16-2022

Brink hasn't had to be dominant offensively with the team around her.  Great to see her being more aggressive and smarter in the post.  As a freshman in last year's final few games, she seemed a little averse to contact at times when I thought she could have stood her ground and returned the favors thrown her way.

Even with Wilson and the Hulls leaving after this season, Brink will still have major offensive contributors (all four juniors: Jones, Belibi, Prechtel, Jump) ready to go.  Brink's defensive performance could keep her in the national conversation as an individual player even if her offensive numbers are team-oriented.  Maybe in her senior year she'll seize the spotlight a la Griner.

I just hope Cam never punches anyone in the face in college or the pros a la Griner.

I’m not sure Brink will have the same spotlight as Griner since she will be sharing the post her senior year with then sophomore Lauren Betts.  But I’m not sure this team cares as much about individual accolades.  The great thing about winning last year is that it validated the team first mentality that Stanford has always had.  Look at how happy our “star” players are when Emma-Nnopu hits a big three to seal a win late in the game.
