WBB: Stanford vs BYU (ESPN+ 6PM PDT) - martyup - 03-26-2026

Let's end the season with a win over Cal.  GO CARD!

ESPN gives us a 65% chance of winning.

We need to stop Gibb.  Put Shay on her.

I wonder if that is with Somfai?

ESPN+ is airing the game without the score box on the screen.  I have never seen a game broadcast without the score box.

Swain is a turnover machine.

We are getting crushed on the boards.

After 10 minutes, we trail 18-19.

I just saw Brink on a New Balance commercial.

The score box is back
Stanford down 19-18 at the qtr
Sure wish we had better inside defense

The tallest player on their roster is s'posedly 6-3, but she seems 6-10.

As I was wondering why Chloe is guarding her, it became apparent that someone had to.

BYU well coached. agressive.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs BYU (ESPN+ 6PM PDT) - martyup - 03-26-2026

We have nobody home for offensive rebounds.

Swain just parks herself in the corner on offense.  No movement, no screens, no attempt to make an offensive rebound with a shot goes up.  It's not like she's a 3 point threat.  Why does KP leave her on the court?

RE: WBB: Stanford vs BYU (ESPN+ 6PM PDT) - crackpot - 03-26-2026

I dunno, we're getting beat up out there with not a lot to show for it, and Shay blinks at a Cougar and gets a whistle.

And don't get me started on the "jump ball" call...

Hieronymus - Hieronymus - 03-26-2026

- team isn’t good enough to get beaten this badly on the boards.
- transition defense has been really bad as well.
- the offense looks like the offense all year so far.

And yeah the officiating is really bad.

To the good turnovers are low and FT shooting is good - just not enough volume.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs BYU (ESPN+ 6PM PDT) - martyup - 03-26-2026

We trail by 6 at the half.  We gave up 9 offensive rebounds in the first half.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs BYU (ESPN+ 6PM PDT) - BobK - 03-26-2026

Shay gets beat then reaches out for a grab. But yes that last call was bogus.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs BYU (ESPN+ 6PM PDT) - martyup - 03-26-2026

We are really missing Somfai on the boards. I'll bet she's watching the game online and tearing her hair out.

I have commented before on Swain just being sloppy, but who else do you put out there? Ijiwoye already has 3 fouls and there isn’t anybody else.

On a side note I think the lack of depth has hurt Swain’s development this year. As I said earlier in the year, I would bench her every time she does that weak 1 handed stuff as an example. But she hasn’t had consequences and hasn’t been forced to clean up stuff on the court.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs BYU (ESPN+ 6PM PDT) - martyup - 03-26-2026

Swain.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs BYU (ESPN+ 6PM PDT) - crackpot - 03-26-2026

So Stanford takes a shot, misses, BYU rebounds, halfway down the court and Stanford's shotclock expires. Heck, why NOT give BYU 35 seconds to make a shot?

Just let MA set screens all day and Courtney or Chloe take those 3s...

RE: WBB: Stanford vs BYU (ESPN+ 6PM PDT) - martyup - 03-26-2026

Much better 3rd Q.  We outscored them 17-12.  Can we keep Ogden and Shay (each with 3 fouls) on the court for 10 more minutes?  We will need them.

Phantom foul on Ogden.  Refs must by LDS.

How does 5’6” Shay IJiwoye have more rebounds in fewer minutes than 6’4” Alex Eschmeyer?

Quickness, tenacity, and springs. Alex does not crash the boards.

RE: WBB: Stanford vs BYU (ESPN+ 6PM PDT) - mbdude - 03-26-2026

she also has more rebounds then Agara

You could ask the same about Agara - who also only has 4 rebounds in twice as many minutes as Alex.

Transition defense just isn’t acceptable in this game. Halfcourt has been pretty good, but transition has often been a problem this year. Fortunately BYU has missed 3 or 4 layups in transition.
