Great news. If he reaches the level of electricity that Chris did during the 2009 season, then he's a man worthy of the accolades. I had such high hopes for CO based on the way he impacted games with his return abilities alone that year. I hope Francis' career has a continued upward progression.

I can't find anything on Scout about this commitment, but the L.A.Times apparently has, citing Scout.com in their two-sentence blurb announcing Owusu's commitment to Stanford.

to be blunt, I always felt he would commit, and would have been VERY disappointed had he committed elsewhere
Very solid get. Maybe better than solid - Redrum - 06-18-2012
Check out his offer list
Pac-12:Â Ore St., UCLA, ASU, Arizona, Wash. St.
SEC: Vandy, Florida
Big Ten:Â Nebraska, Wisconsin
Others:Â
Northern Indiana Parochial College, San Diego St., Houston, Duke
To me, the Florida, Northern Indiana Parochial College, Wash St. (Leach knows a good WR when he sees one) and Wisconsin offers stand out.  Note also that, according to Rivals, neither Oregon nor the University of South Central offered. That's a comment on those schools' elite speed and skill focus, but also a good grounding that Owusu might have 4 stars, but he's not elite in the national scope of things. That could change in his senior season.
Francis bigger, more physical than Chris, supposedly better in traffic and has shown a real instinct going for the ball. Not as fast as Chris. More durable, we hope.

This is a big deal. He specifically said he wanted to create make his own name, so I thought he wasn't interested in Stanford.

Chris Owusu helped Stanford football immeasurably, but owing to events out of Chris's control, I think Francis will have plenty of opportunity to make his own name at Stanford.Â

When I first saw Francis play he struck me as a player. He, IMO is a better prospect than Chris because of his size, movement and hands.
Chris is fast, but not really quick. This is one of the reasons he has taken so many hard hits. Francis seems like a more fluid athlete with better body control. He's got the same ht and wt as Keenan Allen out of H.S. but is faster. Allen has great body control, change of direction, and vision. I don't know if Francis can match Allen, but he will be better than most Stanford WRs of the past several years, and certainly one of the bigger ones.

I disagree about Owusu not having quicks. How many times did he catch a two or three-yard pass near the sideline and shake a tackle to turn it into a larger gain? Very, very few receivers can do that on a consistent basis, and that's about quickness and acceleration more than pure speed. I think he tested OK in the combine agility drills as well, so maybe he doesn't have elite NFL quickness, but he was plenty quick at the collegiate level.
I also don't really buy into this idea that Owusu's playing style had anything to do with his concussions. That was just bad luck.

Apparently, Francis agrees with you. I'm not too upset about that.

Not that I can read it, but here is a Scout article:

I remember the buzz about Francis once he uploaded his highlight video to youtube, the offers came pouring in. I was hoping he would commit to Stanford and that he would commit early. Perhaps Cory Booker's amazing graduation speech on Sunday closed the deal? :) Doug Randolph, our so-called "soft" commit retweeted the news, which is always a good sign.Â

I mentioned the same thing in my blog post about Owusu's commitment. Booker could end up being quite a recruiter for us. It wouldn't be a bad thing to have a former Cardinal player in the Oval Office!

Well, they both sucked but his fame lay elsewhere.

Wait a minute... the guy with the Dyson ball? That guy's a Stanford grad? How'd I miss that?

The story about Francis Owusu being inspired by Cory Booker's graduation speech was a great tale, but Owusu told Rivals that he made the decision several days before the visit.

I listened to Cory Booker's speech - Redrum - 06-25-2012
and immediately filled out another Stanford application. Maybe the second time does the charm. Wow...what a speech.

Has Cory Booker filed suit against Dos Equus for their "Most Interesting Man in the World" campaign? He should at least be getting a healthy set of royalties.
