Didn't realize she went to Wisconsin. This is a goldmine!

Let's hope they can pull it off. And please somebody tape the LSJUMB shows...I'm certain that they won't be given the broadcast time they deserve on the television broadcast.

Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year <-- Almost too good to be true!!  :D

Re: Challenge to the LSJUMB - dabigv13 - 12-21-2012

The male counterpart is the Jesse Owens award, which is telling as to her accomplishments in college.

Re: Challenge to the LSJUMB - yvonne - 12-21-2012

Oh, she was a great athlete. I seem to recall interviewing her either as an NCAA or high school athlete (NCAA or HS AOY).

However, tying the word "athlete" to "escort (or other synonyms)" is just easy fodder.

Re: Challenge to the LSJUMB - Farm93 - 12-21-2012

Hard to really slam a school on this sex issue.  For perspective, she is a relatively minor former athlete from a low profile event in an Olympic sport.  Stanford has a similar scandal rich sex story, but our story is related to a famous athlete from a big time American game/sport.

Her escapades seemed to have the odd consent of her spouse.  His did not.

Her story will be old news by this weekend.  His story has remained relevant for more than a year now.

For me, I would prefer that LSJUMB stick to the theme that Wisconsin has apparently become less desirable than Arkansas.  That will resonate in a deeper way for the average UW alum still living and working in Wisconsin than the sorry story of one former athlete with self-esteem issues.

If making fun of Oklahoma got the Band a one-year no-travel sanction, I imagine that getting within 100 miles of this would mean probation and various other sanctions extending to roughly around the time that the current Band's grandchildren's grandchildren are born...  ;D

Good point.  By the way, I assume that Shaw's new contract had an express provision forbidding him from designating Mr. Woods as the honorary captain at any game ever again [or, at a minimum, at any Big or Bowl Game...]

The mile is a minor event????

She says her spouse knew about her prostitution and tried to stop it. Awareness and consent are not the same thing.

I'm betting you could get the phrase Big Ten Female Athlete of the Year Award past the censors.

If the band gets to play at halftime... - oldguy - 12-21-2012

I'd like to see them pick music that makes the band sound like "the world's biggest rock band." Then weave an entertaining field show around the music.

What the announcer says will be censored or hard to hear anyway.

Too soon.

Brother who committed suicide, documented history of depression before this revelation...kids, let's just hope this story has some kind of happy ending (yes, I suck).

Re: Challenge to the LSJUMB - Spiny_Norman - 12-21-2012

If LSJUMB can be slapped on the back for their good-natured tribute to Joe Francis, is a show inspired by current events that far off in terms of tastefulness?

A suggested song - Susie Q/Suzy queue

Re: Challenge to the LSJUMB - fullmetal - 12-21-2012

Joe Francis is a exploitative sleazeball.  Ms. Hamilton surely deserves more tact than Francis.  I'm with needle on this.

Not entirely sure, but I think it's a pretty good bet that this is the first time that "LSJUMB" and the word "tact" have appeasred in the same post...

Re: Challenge to the LSJUMB - dabigv13 - 12-21-2012

Francis is an exploitative skeazeball and Hamilton became a prostitute solely for the exciting lifestyle. Oh yeah and she has a daughter.

Not sure there's a scale for this sort of thing, but on the people deserving of marching band mockery, I think they're pretty close.

And yet the band got in trouble for doing that field show at U$C.  So, don't worry, the AD has them censored more than enough to ensure that there will be nothing there to offend you.

They'll be lucky if they can do a field show comparing California and Wisconsin cheese  ::)

I certainly don't approve of Hamilton's decisions.  But given that she was struggling with major depression at the time, I'm inclined to cut her some slack.  Joe Francis, on the other hand, doesn't seem to have any mental illness (unless they've added "moral deficiency disorder" to the latest DSM).

Re: Challenge to the LSJUMB - needle - 12-21-2012

Well, I actually just made a joke at the expense of a likely clinically-depressed human being (with my "happy endings" crack). I'm generally in favor of less tact.

But this breaking just a few days before the Rose Bowl, I really believe it's just more of a "too soon" thing than something that can never ever be made fun of.

If LSJUMB goes that way--and it is some pretty golden comedic fodder--it will be fun/scary to see the Wisky crowd react.

I think a show on cholesterol and obesity would be good.

Wisconsin fans won't get it. Judging from recent posts, it seems to be a Stanford stereotype that everyone from Wisconsin is fat, but I don't think Wisconsinites are aware of that or sensitive about it. When I was growing up in Wisconsin, I didn't notice folks being any fatter than they are anywhere else in the country.
