Twitter active...jungle drums say new commit happened - Redrum - 06-26-2013
Would be nice if it were Iowa DE Nelson, but he's supposedly going to announce on Thursday anyway. Maybe, maybe not.
Maybe QB Keller Chryst will finally make a move. Maybe some new offer will tumble quickly...thinking DE Lane Veach, unrated but seen as a steal of an underated player. Or, maybe OLB Bobby Okereke, an academic phenom who just picked up an offer from us.

Latest Twitter I've seen is that Shaw is away on a cruise. It could have been a false alarm. :-(.
I want them ALL...but Nelson and Chryst stand out - Redrum - 06-27-2013
I want Nelson mainly because any time you can poke ND in the eye, you've got to savor it. Also, it might get OT Piersbacher rethinking about his commitment to Iowa, too.  I think Chryst will be ours, too, sometime but would be glad he came and sooner works for me.
I think Shaw on a boat won't affect the Nelson commit one way or the other. He's a very bright, grounded kid and his final three are 2/3 defensible. If he opts for ND I'll hate it, but it's not something lame like he deciding to go to the local college because his girlfriend will be going there, too. And, I guess, the cosmopolitan/international flavor of Stanford kind of anesthetizes us to the genuine appeal of
place and
home and playing for the glory of (wherever).

Jordan Austin is big (6' 8" and 280 lbs) and he just verballed to USC seemingly minutes after getting an offer from USC. I hope some other "big" was implied here.
Iowa - Redrum - 06-27-2013
But, better Nelson to Iowa than ND.  And, I suppose, that means we STILL have a commit as tweeted earlier, just not Nelson. Unless the twitterverse got it wrong.
Nah. That'd never happen.

I've seen Austin and he's not close to 6 foot 8. I think you have him confused with Matt Nelson.

The source is rock solid, Mike Eubanks, Asst. Athletic Director: "Mike Eubanks â@maeubanks 18h
Add commitment by @facebook messenger to the #newworld of @StanfordFball recruiting. #cardclass14 #gostanford"
It has been 18 hours since that tweet. Are Greek cruises really devoid of any technology, or what else could be delaying the announcement?Â

I was also hearing Chryst. He, himself, hasn't tweeted anything, though he rarely does anyhow.
Drukarev tried to get in touch with the family late yesterday evening.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe NCAA rules prohibit coaches or the university from making any kind of official statement or announcement about a particular recruit until national signing day. Thus, we still get cryptic messages on Twitter to give out hints that a new commitment has been made, but never with specific information. It's up to the recruit, or his family, to say something if they want. They could also choose to commit to the coaches, but then say absolutely nothing and on NSD just fax in their LOI.Â

I know that the university won't identify the commit. Do we know of any other commit in recent years who kept his commitment secret until signing day (or the day he found out whether he got admitted)?

That's not uncommon at all. A fair number wait until signing day and do the hat or shirt selection at their high school. Remember two years ago when we had the phenomenal offensive line class? Several of them including Peat and Murphy hadn't announced until signing day.
And then, there was Eric Lorig....

But neither Peat nor Murphy had secretly committed to the Cardinal way before February, had they?Â

Probably not, but if it was secret, we might never know.

Based on what Shaw said in the immediate aftermath, neither Peat nor Murphy was a lock. He described some serious celebration in the office when each player committed. He has, however, mentioned that Wayne Lyons was a lock as much as a year before he officially verballed.
