Next Cardinal QB when Kevin Hogan moves on? - JohnR34231 - 06-29-2013

Timely poll, I think.

Burns, I love the possibilities of having a QB who is bigger and stronger than 95% of the linebackers in the college football

That is the most ridiculous statement or prediction I've heard in quite some time.

Re: Next Cardinal QB when Kevin Hogan moves on? - PrinceLightfoot - 06-29-2013

Too difficult to predict - most of us were thinking Nottingham would be named the starter last year. No one was considering a third string QB would take the reigns and ultimately defeat Oregon, win the conference championship, and bring home a Rose Bowl win.

To steal what Shaw said concerning our RB depth, we have an embarrassment of riches at QB.

Speculating is gun, especially during the off season, but let's remember that Keller -- much less Josh -- is not in the bag yet. I'd love it if any of those guys took the reins and led the team to something good.

Have you ever seen Burns? The kid was 6'5 and 230 lbs and had an NFL physique last summer. I have no doubt he'll be at least 245 and one of the strongest players on the team after 3 full offseasons in the weight program

I think I'm part of a very small minority who really wants to see more of Evan Crower.  Pinpoint accuracy is a highly underrated commodity.

No, all of us would like to see more of Evan Crower.  Especially during 4th quarters.

He does look like he'd have the frame to get to 245 or even more, but I doubt that the staff will be focused on putting on weight. He's listed at 220lbs, and I think the staff will likely try and keep him around there. Adding 25 lbs will undoubtedly slow him down, and it's not going to make him throw the ball harder. He doesn't need extra mass to block or hit, no sense in adding it.

Re: I solved our high class problem. - Bruce Wang - 06-29-2013

Add Two QB Zone Read plays to the arsenal.  Should try that with Hogan + Crower/Lloyd.

Also if Burns doesn't stay ahead of Chryst, he has the size and speed to play TE.

With a 42-21 lead and 10:29 to play, most teams would be content to just run out the clock. The Cardinal stuck to the ground the rest of the way against Oregon — but not because it was done playing football. Stanford had exhausted its rival’s defense, and the Cardinal was going to take advantage with its trademark: power. On first down, sophomore QB Ryan Burns lifted center Graham Shuler with his left hand and used him as a battering ram to crash for 2 yards on the left side. On second down it was junior guard Josh Garnett pulling and paving the way for a 7-yard Burns run, as Barry Sanders, Jr., already with over 200 yards rushing, cooled his heels on the sideline.  That’s when, as the Cardinal lined up for third-and-1, an Oregon defensive lineman spoke up to Shuler.

“If you guys run a quarterback sneak one more time, I’m done,” he said. “I’m subbing myself out.”

He looked all of 230 last summer and I doubt there is anything the coaches can do to keep him from getting bigger he's all muscle already

Fixed embarrassing typo. --CompSci87

AD you need to correct that typo ASAP.

Re: Next Cardinal QB when Kevin Hogan moves on? - oman - 06-29-2013

Oh my.

Re: Next Cardinal QB when Kevin Hogan moves on? - Bruce Wang - 06-29-2013

Given that the letter "B" resides next to "N" on a QWERTY keyboard, it's hopefully a typo.  If AD uses a Dvorak keyboard, Yvonne needs to take appropriate measures.  Including fixing that typo if AD doesn't do it stat.

I notice we are both Dollies and he is a "Pro Fro".  Maybe it isn't anything but a thing.

lol thanks for fixing that typo

Re: Next Cardinal QB when Kevin Hogan moves on? - yvonne - 06-29-2013

I've been enjoying Monterey and hadn't looked at the board until now. I was wondering what the fuss was all about until I read Publius' post. Maybe AD's been eating too much high fat Southern food lately.

Re: Next Cardinal QB when Kevin Hogan moves on? - Bruce Wang - 07-01-2013

With Hogan firmly entrenched as the starter and Crower as his backup for the next two seasons, I wonder why there isn't more chatter about Dallas Lloyd moving to another position given his athleticism.  Stanford does have a rich history of players recruited as QBs who end up at other positions and thrive.  John Lynch and Justin Armour come to mind.

What I find interesting - Redrum - 07-01-2013

Is how much faith is put in the future, specifically in QBs that have not yet set foot on campus.  (Well, perhaps Burns is here for summer workouts).  We even have faith expressed in a QB who doesn't even have a Stanford offer yet.

IF  (if)  Keller Chryst is our South Bay version of Jesus in Cleats  the guy I feel for is Dallas Lloyd. If Hogan starts for two more years,  then Chryst-- if indeed he is all that--  will get the nod.  He will be this next cycle's Evan Crower.
