New USC Head Coach: Steve Sarkisian -
gocard14 - 12-02-2013
ESPN now reporting Sarkisian has been hired on sportscenter.
I, for one, am happy. It will make it so easy to keep hating USC. Coach O was just too likable to keep. Also facing a Sarkisian coached team with USC talent sounds a lot less scary then facing a Briles or Petersen coached team with the same roster.

I, for one, can't wait to see US
C go 7-6 every year for the next 5 years.

Reactions:
1.
2. If Justin Wilcox goes to SC and gets SC-level athletes on defense, Shaw needs to figure out some sh*t or else we're never scoring on them again.

Agreed. Wilcox with SC talent could bring back memories of the 2005-2008 Trojans defense. Scary.

I think Wilcox will get the Washington job after Mora turns it down.
Clearly Sark was the waiting list candidate. Haden got dinged by Del Rio, Sumlin, Petersen, and Franklin.
The only way this coaching shuffle could be prospectively better for us if they fire Dykes and hire Orgeron. The Hummer Salesman and the academics at Kal would be an epic train wreck.

If UDub doesn't hire Doug Nussmeier from Alabammy then retaining Wilcox and at least some/all or Sark's staff makes the most sense.
I wonder if Coach O will stay on at USC in some capacity?

Wow. RT @Softykjr Per source: Justin Wilcox is going to USC with Steve Sarkisian. Nothing confirmed on any angle from UW

Was Sark's first call to a recruit? RT @LindseyThiry: 2014 five-star RB Joe Mixon RT @Joe_MainMixon: USC is now back in the picture for me.

My reaction to Sark-to-USC news: Not sure it will make the other 10 coaches hide under the covers.

And then there's this for a stat:
Orgeron won 6 Pac-12 games in less than a full season, which is more than Sark has in any of his 5 yrs in conference. #USC

I wonder what Sark will do with his offense. He switched to an uptempo pro/spread hybrid, but that was presented as something to make Price more effective. Does Sark keep that style, or does he go back to what he knows best with SC players?

I was surprised by the lack of discussion about Art Briles in the USC coaching search. I know the philosophies don't really match (uptempo spread vs. pro-style), but what Briles has done in the Big-12 IMO is more impressive then Franklin's work in the SEC.

34-29 as a HC at UW. What is US.C thinking? I hope I don't eat these words later, but I think Pat Haden just did the league a favor.
Quote: My only question is, what will the two schools do about their bowl games?
My distaste for all things Trojan aside, I hope they do the right thing and let Orgeron coach the bowl. Sark should be kicked to the curb and escorted from the building ASAP, so I don't think he'll be at the UW bowl game unless he buys a ticket. Regardless, considering the bowls they'll likely go to, who cares who coaches?
According to ESPN "POwer Rankings", Sark just made the leap from 6th best Pac12 team to 5th! Woohoo!

University of Second Choice? Much too flattering. More like University of Sixth Choice.

Sark to U$C
leaves the door open for
Mora to UW
then UCLA hires Orgeron
The Pac-12 network was looking for some offseason programming and this would be Bravo worthy.

How does Sark say this stuff with a straight face:
Quote:I didnt interview for the job, Sarkisian told KJR. They (USC) reached out and I talked to them (this weekend).

Maybe him saying that with a straight face was part of the interview process...

Because he came up in the USC system under Petey. Self-interest and putting a good face on everything is second nature by now. I hope his car doesn't get a flat tire on the way out of Seattle. Drivers will swerving to hit him in the road.

The majority opinion among Husky fans suggests that they will swerve out of the way so he can get out of town faster.

Not a shock to me. SC claimed they could get anybody, but then almost EVERYBODY said no. Then SC had to reach out to their safety pick, Sark. Those that thought SC would get an established winner just did not understand that top flight coaches knew this was not the time or the place for them. Ole Ed's quasi-success only added to the list of reasons to avoid SC. SC probably helped some of the better coaches get better deals at their current school, see Sumlin, but most knew that there are just too many issues and headaches at SC. (Scholarship challenges, resurgent cross town rival, stadium renovation fundraising, etc.)
Sark was on the UW hot seat, so this is a rather lucky move for him. Will SC pay him more than he was getting at UW? Seems like he was getting the apparently unofficial PAC-12 salary of $2.5 million at UW, so I would guess SC has to pay him more, perhaps $3.5 million per year.
Sark does know the Pac-12 recruiting landscape and likely will be able to get a few of his UW verbals to swing to SC. Since SC is well behind in their recruiting, that quick boost has to be an important bonus for SC.
Can Sark be successful at SC? Yes
Is Sark a proven superstar coach that SC implied they would get? No
