2013 Tyler Gaffney MVP Highlight & Senior Tribute -
stupac2 - 12-11-2013
Gaffney was voted team MVP, and here's the highlight they put together:

On a similar note, here's the tribute to this year's seniors, with a one highlight for each:

I think some of those were odd choices, but it was nice to see contributions from players whose names I wasn't familiar with.

That Gaffney video has some absolutely Toby-esque moments to it. And that's the highest form of flattery in my book.

Nice videos. For Conor McFadden, they should have put in a shot of him by Bloomgren with The White Board.

Here are the 25 seniors in order from the video. Many good memories of football excellence from this class.

Cummings #23
Danser  #76
Dudchick #83
Gaertner #37
Gaffney #25 (the MVP and the engine of the 2013 season)

Wow -- I knew we were losing a bunch of guys this year, but this video really hammers home how many terrific contributors will be moving on. I have a couple of questions:
1) Ed Reynolds listed by not Jordan Richards? Do they both have one year of eligibility remaining but Ed Reynolds won't use that year? Or are they not in the same class?
2) I've been worried about the losses among the defensive front seven, but what are we going to do about FS? Were all of our free safeties seniors?
3) Why do the "my last walk" t-shirts use comic sans serif as the font? I can think of no better way to remove gravitas from an event than using a font designed for cat newsletters and lemonade stands.

Seniors video is the best one of its kind I have seen.

Richards is a Junior. I'm not sure about RS or not, but he has at least one year of eligibility left. Reynolds has a year left too, but we don't know if he'll use it. Shaw said that if people with remaining eligibility wanted to walk on Senior Day, they could, even if they might come back. Presumably that includes being in this video.

I don't know our depth chart very well. Is Hoffpauer (sp?) a FS? He's a safety of some sort, and Shaw seems high on him. Paging Hulk, he'll know this one.

The hatred people have for that font will never cease to amuse me.

A few weeks ago, we discussed those academic seniors who have another year of eligibility available if they choose to take it. The list includes Ed Reynolds.

Who replaces Reynolds is the biggest personnel question on the 2014 squad, IMO. Hoffpauir is a SS, who plays best at the LOS, as evidenced by his fourth down stop against ASU at the goal line.
Olugbode is more of a backup type, and probably not ideal for FS either.
Perhaps Pippens can be moved there?Â

Maybe I'm crazy, but I think Reynolds is replacing Reynolds. I guess we'll see.

FWIW, everything I've heard says Reynolds is gone. I guess it's not over until it's over, but I would be surprised if he were to come back.
Based on the graduating seniors who were introduced at the banquet and included in the highlight video, it appears that the following fourth-year players most likely will not be returning for a fifth year:
Offense:
David Yankey
Conor McFadden
Dillon Bonnell
Cole Underwood
Davis Dudchock
Eddie Plantaric
Keanu Nelson
David Olson
Jackson Cummings
Defense:
Ed Reynolds
Chris Gaertner
And these are the fourth year players who were not introduced as graduating seniors, and therefore appear likely to return for a fifth year:
Offense:
Cameron Fleming
Jeff Trojan
Lee Ward
Ricky Seale
Defense:
Henry Anderson
David Parry
Blake Lueders
A.J. Tarpley
Joe Hemschoot
Kyle Olugbode
John Flacco
Kickers:
Jordan Williamson
Ben Rhyne
Hoffpauir - Redrum - 12-13-2013
I didn't know this until this week, but according to a guy who follows the team very closely, Hoffpauir is already slotted and practicing at the position to replace Amanam at the nickle back. With Richards returning, presumably as free safety, I don't know who that leaves as the strong safety. Hoff is not the fastest guy, but-- given how successful bubble screens, with WRs locking up CBs blocking, have been-- I'd think Hoffpauir might get a look at SS because he really is physical and a tough hitter. Maybe he can fight through those bubble screen blocks.

We've put Hemschoot at NB at times this year. It's clear speed is not top of the list on criteria for NBers for our coaching staff. (Though Hemschoot's very quick for a LB.)

Maybe Alex Carter moves to Safety?Â
Pippens, Harris, Thomas, and maybe even a True Frosh plays CB? Certainly a lot of bodies in the incoming DB class.

if Flacco is coming back for a 5th year there's no chance he's on scholarship.

Carter's our best corner - I'd rather Lyons moved to safety and Harris starts at CB. But I'm sure the coaching staff will consider all possible configurations before next season starts and work out which one is best.

I wonder if Hemschoot can slim down a bit and play SS. He is pretty damn fast and faster than Hoffpauir so maybe he'd be a better fit there, not really sure though.

Flacco told me he's coming back for a fifth year. With the graduation of Reynolds and Carrington, he sees a chance to compete for playing time. I assume he's still a walk-on.

Perhaps his brother can help foot the bill with some of that SB contract money...
