Phil Simms: "When he needs to, he can put some heat on the football."

YOU DON'T SAY.

Dude, don't jinx it

Re: Another fine Andrew Luck game - washingtonismoney - 01-11-2015

Luck with another fine spate of quarterbacking: manipulated the pocket, then threw a burner to Nicks. 21-10, Colts.

Some nice things from the colts - BostonCard - 01-11-2015

The offensive line had a great day against a team known for its pass rush.
There were signs of a running game (Herron had 23 carries for 63 yards).
The Colts D completely shut down Peyton Manning
Andrew Luck did his thing, but for a change he didn't have to do everything.

Curious about Skip's response to Luck now being 2-1 against Peytong?

https://twitter.com/RealSkipBayless/status/554441221943619584

Well, he's nothing if not consistent. 3 better years? Probably. But he still thinks trading for 3 somewhat better seasons is better than a decade of guaranteed QB play? The guy is just nuts.

Is there also a:

"AGAIN:  Colts made brobdingnagian mistake picking Luck over RG3" tweet?

He's a professional troll. I really doubt he believes that, except maybe that he's convinced himself that his trolling is genuine.

This from the clown color guy who would never give him credit for jack.  Better late than never.

Peyton's had three better years...because he's playing with the better team. Duh.

I thought football was a game played by two sets of eleven man platoons, that 22 men took the field (plus assorted special teams).  This is the first I've heard that it's a 1 on 1 game.  I'll have to read up on this "football."  Perhaps Skip has written the book on it.

Not after this year. They're going to have a really tough time re-signing their key players this year.

[suspicious]Also, what's the deal with this sketchy-looking guy that apparently does suspicious tags. Who can see this? Who can't? I guess that question doesn't make sense but maybe Yvonne will explain. I am mostly intrigued by the sketchy-looking guy.[/suspicious]

Yeah, the moves for Denver and Indi three years ago made sense for each team.  Denver was built to win now, and, they made it all the way to the Superbowl under Manning.  Indianapolis was in clear rebuilding mode, and Peyton probably couldn't have done more than Andrew for them, plus Manning would have used up a lot of the cap.  By the time all the draft picks they would have gotten for trading the first pick would have worked out, Manning would have been at the sunset of his career.  Luck has Indianapolis running a bit ahead of schedule (part of it is they are lucky to be playing in the NFL's weakest division, but still, I think most Indi fans are glad that they have Luck now and are happy that Manning wound up on his feet in Denver.

It was one of those rare things that worked out for everyone (except those in Denver hoping for a Superbowl win).

How Skip and Rick came from the same home is beyond me.

Re: Another fine Andrew Luck game - BostonCard - 01-11-2015

Also, Coby Fleener had three catches for 49 yards, but none more important than a 32 yard catch in traffic on third and 19 or so.  It was the longest play from scrimmage on the game, and led to a TD that put the Colts up 21-10.

Quote: Indianapolis was in clear rebuilding mode

Skip always neglects to remember this whenever the topic comes up. Reggie Wayne, Robert Mathis and others could not all have been signed if they had shelled out the brobdingnagian amount they were going to pay Peyton in 2011. The team would have been even more gutted. Sadly, Grigson was able to do so little with the difference in cap space that he received from the lower cap spend from Luck. That doesn't bode well for the future when Luck takes up a tad more cap space than he already is. But back on topic, it's doubtful Peyton would have had the same success he had the past three years playing behind Indy's line and throwing to whatever receivers they would have had.

But regardless, Skip is so narrow in his analysis. He's viewing the decision like a fan would. Irsay was thinking about the longterm success of his multi-million dollar business.

Especially considering that Manning is kind of a statue in the pocket at this point in his career. He'd have been destroyed.

I was so tempted to ask Rick questions along those lines when I sat next to him on that flight.  Figured the poor guy got trapped sitting next to me, might as well keep the conversation focused on tacos and moles.

btw Hank, the Zoji is impervious to New Hampshire winters.

Back to the thread, this is the best support I've seen for Andrew from the Colts defense and his offensive line.  It really is a shame they traded a first round pick for a guy they didn't even suit up for a game.  If they play like this next weekend, they got a chance against the Patriots.  Would be so sweet if Luck and the Luckettes can take down his predecessor, Commercial Boy, and then that pretty boy Uggs peddlar, and then his draft classmate who lucked into a stacked team with no weaknesses.

Re: Another fine Andrew Luck game - washingtonismoney - 01-11-2015

Rick and Skip, if reporting is to be believed, are not on great terms:

Quote: Bayless calls himself the black sheep in a family that was all-in on the restaurant business. Bayless’s brother has credited their father and their Hickory House restaurant with his own success. Three years younger, Rick Bayless stuck around food. He became a popular television chef on PBS, published nine books, opened some of Chicago’s best restaurants and is a favorite of the Obamas.

He declined to be interviewed for this story but has never publicly lamented his upbringing and has cited his father as his greatest influence. Among the most well-known siblings on television, Skip and Rick Bayless have virtually no relationship today

Looking ahead, today's outcome does not make me more optimistic against the Pats. The Colts won today because the offensive line protected Luck, the defense played pretty well, and the Broncos imploded. Seriously, Peyton was way off on his touch on those deep baseline throws, they had no intermediate game, and the receivers dropped half the catchable balls. I don't think you'll see the same mistakes from Brady, Gronk, Edelman et al. Plus, you'll have a serious coaching upgrade to deal with Belichek. That ineligible receiver BS he pulled against the Ravens is probably one of a half dozen loop holes he's probably identified that he can exploit.

The Colts offense may or may not play as well as they did today, but I don't think the Pats will be held to 13 points.

The Colts have a chance (apparently opening as 7 point dogs, which feels a little light when you consider they beat the Colts in Indy by 22 a few weeks back). But everyone will have to play their best and the Pats will need to make some key mistakes.
