Jordan Richards to the Patriots - ThePassionOfTheChryst - 05-01-2015

Round 2, pick 32 (64 overall)

Teammates with Gaffney again

Re: Jordan Richards to the Patriots - French Rage - 05-01-2015

I loved Ertz's comments about "Coach Richards".

Re: Jordan Richards to the Patriots - OutsiderFan - 05-01-2015

ESPN said a lot of good things about him.  Was my favorite Stanford defensive player the last two seasons.

That's what the drafterati said too, but obviously Belichick's much smarter than the lot of them.

Re: Jordan Richards to the Patriots - ThePassionOfTheChryst - 05-01-2015

The 2nd was a pretty big reach compared to all the mocks, but in these matters I will defer to Belichick.

Henry should be the next Stanford man drafted.

Alex Carter will go before Anderson, IMO.

Re: Jordan Richards to the Patriots - fullmetal - 05-01-2015

Richards, Gaffney, and Fleming (right?)...so I gotta root for the Colts AND Patriots for sure.

Hopefully this + DB recruiting + Akina will become a virtuous circle.

Re: Jordan Richards to the Patriots - stupac2 - 05-02-2015

Keep in mind that the Patriots are infamous for 2nd round busts. Pats fans don't love the pick, though I'm hopeful that Richards will be, at the very least, a solid addition to a secondary that needs some help.

Re: Jordan Richards to the Patriots - winflop - 05-02-2015

No offense to Hank, Andy, or any of the other pundits, but I will take Belichick's judgment over all of the others' combined.

Re: Jordan Richards to the Patriots - FarmBoy - 05-04-2015

Well, predictably, the Boston area sports talk shows are bipolar in slamming the pick because Richards was rated a 5th round+ pick but also not wanting to criticize Bellicheck the genius who must have a plan. They seem more annoyed that he used a late round pick on a long snapper and it wasn't until the 7th round they picked up a CB after going through the free agency period without a replacement for Derelle Revis.

Hopefully Richards and prove them all wrong.

Re: Jordan Richards to the Patriots - Bruce Wang - 05-04-2015

The Boston morning sports radio show I listen to (Toucher & Rich), replayed the audio of segment when Belichik and Kraft called Jordan Richards.  Kraft mentioned the Stanford reunion with Fleming and Gaffney.  The hosts were mostly amused at how emotionless Belichik and Kraft sounded especially in contrast to the unshown other side of the line where Richards must have lost his mind going three rounds earlier than expected to the reigning Super Bowl champions.

IIRC ZErtz mentioned the hardest hitter he went against in practice was Richards.  Given how well ZErtz is doing in the pros, this bodes well.

I'm not sure if I've seen it on the Cardboard yet but undrafted Cardinal LB James Vaughters signed with Green Bay this morning.

You probably didn't recognize his first name. I believe "Muddy" is Kinderian for James.

In Section 235 we stand and cheer each tackle Muddy made.  Vaughters close to Waters as in "I'm a Man"  Muddy Waters

Well, there are two aspects of the analysis.  The first is worth a second round pick.  Time will tell on that, and if Richards produces in the NFL, then everyone will think that Belicheck is a genius.

The second question, which is unknowable, is whether they could have gotten Richards with a lower pick, given that he appeared to be a consensus fifth round pick.  If everyone thinks he's going in the fifth round, could they have gotten a player that they thought was worth a second round pick with a fourth round pick.  The thing is, all it would have taken is a single team to, say, draft him in the third or early fourth round, for that strategy to backfire.  Given how unpredictable other teams are, and how often GM's lie about their intentions, it may be that the consensus was really anything but, and that several teams were disappointed that the Pats took him in the second, because they thought they might have a steal in the third.

Re: Jordan Richards to the Patriots - terry - 05-04-2015

The supposed "experts" who publish predictions about a player's draft round are not the people who actually pick. And the people who actually pick have no good reason to tell the truth about their intentions. In fact, they have an incentive to lie. Who knows the actual consensus of NFL teams regarding Richards.
