I need BobK to put some context for this.  Hopefully they are good.

See the Bootleg for my comments. Or I'll cut and paste for here.

Keep in mind with Rittman leaving we lost a great pitcher to transfer.  You can watch Hoover and LSU try to win the NCAA title.  Also we lost a couple of recruits to admissions and pre admissions and with the brobdingnagian mess than is Softball at Stanford a couple of other possibles.  So not The class it could have been.

Next year looks very good admissions willing however.

Frankly, I'm not sure why you would even post first on a site that derides softball as a "Sears sport," but that's me

Re: Stanford softball signees - BobK - 05-26-2015

Lee was 16-8 .99 ERA and hit 433 this season.

Frost plays baseball and will be one of the 36 trying out for the National 18U or so girls/womens baseball team.  She has pitched well in baseball.
Fowkes hit 467 and plays CF.

I changed my password to a random set of digits and logged out of that site for good a couple months ago.  It has not been the same site in ages.  Even the CEB has become a pissing contest.

Re: Stanford softball signees - BostonCard - 05-26-2015

Bob, I read your comments to mean that it will probably be Several years before we can dig out of the mess we are in.  Is that accurate?

Re: Stanford softball signees - BobK - 05-26-2015

The CEB is terrible.  Down to two rational people with you gone BC.  When I see Terry posts I look.

Yvonne, Softball is a great sport.  Or I don't follow.  I know almost no fans here of many Stanford sports, but the Golf and Directors Cup treads are fantastic.

And Yes I remember the beginning of the Cardboard and why.

Re: Stanford softball signees - yvonne - 05-26-2015

Having been a "minor sport" athlete, I know that the term is an oxymoron. They're all good sports.

Re: Stanford softball signees - BobK - 05-26-2015

BC it's all about pitching.  Not sure if you read the Mercury stories, and more to come, but I posted them all on the "leg".  It's a mess.    We lost our two pitchers this year to injury and of course the 3rd who transferred.  So a lost year.  Both our injured pitchers return so we could and they could be good.  But then I'm an fan,  LOL

Re: Stanford softball signees - BobK - 05-26-2015

Of course they are Yvonne, why would you think otherwise?

Re: Stanford softball signees - BostonCard - 05-26-2015

Yvonne's point is that at the other site, sports other than football and basketball are relegated to the Sears board, and are accorded second class status.  That is presumably in contrast with this site, where you have a three page women's golf thread.

Re: Stanford softball signees - BobK - 05-26-2015

Well it's 7 pages on the bootleg so I guess I miss the point.  Or no sport is minor to me.  Ok won't see frisbee there 😳

Re: Stanford softball signees - BostonCard - 05-26-2015

To you it's not an issue; but most on the 'leg consistently look down on those sports (of course, some people here do too, but they are polite about it).  And, institutionally, the "Sears sports" are segregated on their own board.  No one is complaining about you; I think there are few people who are more enthusiastic about ALL Stanford sports than you.  But you are kind of the exception on the other board.

+1.  I still post every now and then, but that's about to change.

Re: Stanford softball signees - terry - 05-28-2015

I think the Bootleg's Sears Board is a good thing for fans of sports other than football and basketball. The number of posts on the Bootleg can be pretty high, especially during football season. If there were just one board for all sports, the board would move so fast that posts would scroll off the front page, get lost, and never get read. Posts about football and basketball would overwhelm posts about other sports.

To me, it made sense to for the Bootleg to split the posts among several boards. The Bootleg has separate boards for football, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, and other sports. I think this helps the fans of each of those sports because the posts on each board stay on the front page long enough for people to see them and respond to them. I like to follow all sports, and I find the Sears Board useful because the posts and threads on that board don't get lost among all the football posts. Also, the Sears Board is non-premium, which opens it up to more people.

Re: Stanford softball signees - yvonne - 05-28-2015

Oh please. Tell me you don't remember snide posts like "I got an athletic cup from Sears once." Even the term "Sears board" is meant for derision. It was originally created to stem the tide after people who wanted to talk about women's sports and Olympic sports found a welcome place here.

And tell me you haven't learned a thing or two about rowing because it was discussed here where you didn't have to go looking for it.

Re: Stanford softball signees - BobK - 05-28-2015

Oh please and I post about T& F and soon it's about well you know what

Re: Stanford softball signees - Leftcoast - 05-28-2015

There's a place for both boards.  I don't go to the Bootleg very often but I used to find great info on Women's Volleyball over there from SakiBomb and others.  I stay at the Cardboard because this is a better place to hang out, IMHO.  I'm sure our thread drift is annoying to some but to me the informality makes this place more conversational and personal.

To each his own .... and BobK I like having you and your info on Women's basketball and other sports around.

Yeah, I shouldn't have been so harsh on the other board.  I was a member from the very beginning, and a paying subscriber for years, and engaged in many thoughtful discussions over the years. I don't regret being a part of it for years. However, I have found the board became less welcoming with time, harsher against dissenting opinions, and that the quality of both the paid content and the message boards diminished over time.  But I harbor no grudges against the other board; I still occasionally lurk and keep in contact with a number of people from there in RL (plus some have migrated over to this board, others are "dual citizens" so to speak).  I miss the old Bootleg, but I don't really miss what it has become.

Re: Stanford softball signees - fullmetal - 05-28-2015

The cognoscenti here do a great job of filtering and summarizing the plethora of good information available on the Bootleg.  If I had infinite time, I might be reading that board...but I just couldn't get into it.  So much noise.
