WBB: 2017 recruiting - 81alum - 06-29-2015

Let's get 2017 started.  Here are three who say they are considering Stanford.  I don't know a thing about their academic prospects.

Kiana Williams.  A 5'7" point guard from Texas.  ESPN 4*.  No 27 on the ESPN list of top 60.  No. 26 on Prospects Nation.
Quote:Confident lead-guard with a scorer's mentality; handles and attacks in transition, reads pressure; splits traps, double-teams, finds rim with regularity; midrange game creator extends to the arc. (Olson)

Shalexxus Aaron. A 6'1" wing from Washington State, from the same high school as Tea.  ESPN 3*  No. 9 wing, not in top 60 in ESPN.  No. 42 on Prospects Nation.

Quote:Long, athletic perimeter performer with off-the-charts potential; emerging mid range consistency; active on glass. (Olson)

Tea Adams.  A 5'9" point guard from Washington State, from the same high school as Shalexxus.  ESPN 3*  No 16 pg, not in top 60 in ESPN.
Quote:Lead-guard brings a scorer's mentality; game manager handles and distributes in uptempo; midrange game creator extends to the arc. (Olson)

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - TheFarm07 - 06-30-2015

That class will be replacing Lili, Erica, Karlie, Kailee and Briana, so they will have large shoes to fill.

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - BobK - 06-30-2015

Williams is very much on our radar.  Aaron is news to me as is Adams. I'll see them both starting Sunday in Oregon.  Aaron played on the same team as Privec last year but missed them.

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - BobK - 07-16-2015

Liked Pivec but in both games she along with Adams and Aaron were the vastly superior team.  So lots of subbing, no three point shooting.  However Pivec drove andscored ran the floor and scored.

Would love Williams.  I hear great things about her esp her play making and awesome speed.

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - 81alum - 10-28-2015

With 2016 apparently set, time to start thinking more about 2017.  Any new information since we last thought about this in July?

Since then, we have learned about

Estella Moschkau, a 6'2" Wing from Wisconsin.  ESPN 3*.  No. 11 wing.

Quote: Long, agile and versatile perimeter prospect with length, wingspan on perimeter; exploits mismatches, elevates in mid-range game, steps out to the arc; defends out of area. (Olson)

Those are the four high school juniors who ESPN has down as listing Stanford as among their schools of interest.  I certainly hope that there will be a lot more interest that develops over the course of this year.  A lot of the press stories seem to start  mid year when sports reporters no longer have the class of 2016 to talk about.

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - Mike - 10-28-2015

Well, the fifth and final 2017 prospect had better be a F/C because we'll then be down to a total of four bigs on the team: Kaylee Johnson, Shannon Coffee, Alanna Smith, and Nadia Fingall.

Even with that fifth prospect being a F/C, a total of five bigs is sub-optimal. That's cutting it pretty close in view of the possibility of an injury ... or TWO(!), in which case we'd probably have to go to a four-guard/wing lineup for long stretches with only two/three healthy bigs available.

The following year we'll lose Kaylee (barring a red-shirt year in the meantime) and have only two open scholarships. So one, but better yet both, of the 2018 prospects had best be F/Cs. Right now, ESPN shows 6'4" Lindsey Jarosinsky (currently rated number 4 post/number 15 overall in the 2018 class) as interested in Stanford.

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - BobK - 10-29-2015

OK so I share here all I know, but please think about this, what the heck do I know?  If a player mentions Stanford is that wishful thinking?  Could be.  I have sat with several parents at travel games which upon exchange of Hi I'm Bob the other says her or his name and it's someone I think we are recruiting.  I can't talk to them being a booster.  Then several times the parent says no not being recruited by Stanford but daughter once got a letter from Stanford, or they once asked the school for a transcript so my daughter lists Stanford when people ask but Stanford is not recruiting her.

That said for sure we are after Williams and the two I listed last, Lane and Harris certainly we have seen them play and they will be big time.

Kiana Williams.  A 5'6" point guard from Texas.  # 23 on the ESPN list of top 60.  # 20 on Prospects Nation.

Shalexxus Aaron. A 6'1" wing from Washington State, from the same high school as Tea.  No. 37 on Prospects Nation.

Tea Adams.  A 5'9" point guard from Washington State, from the same high school as Shalexxus.  ESPN 3*  No 16 pg, not in top 60 in ESPN.  # 79 Prospects Nation

Estella Moschkau, a 6'2" Wing from Wisconsin.  ESPN 3*.  No. 11 wing.  Not on Prospects Nation

Autumn Newby 6-2 F Ga # 14 Prospects Nation, # 25 ESPN

Mikayla Coombs 5-8 G GA # 28 Prospects Nation, # 24, ESPN

Maya Dodson 6-2 GA # 23 Prospects Nation,  # 11 ESPN

Sidney Cooks 6'4" from Wisconsin  # 35 Prospects Nation, # 9 ESPN

Lindsey Duvall 5-11 W from KY, # 10 ESPN, # 47 Prospects Nation

2018:

Shaley Harris, 6=-5 Post NorCal

2019:

Illa Lane, 6-3 Post Woodsdie Priory, daughter of Juawan Howard

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - 81alum - 01-07-2016

Another name from Bob:

Lauryn Satterwhite. Lauryn is a Junior in Gilbert, Arizona, plays point guard.  She was 5'6" as a freshman, but was listed at 5'8" as a sophomore.  She averaged about 15ppg and 6 assists in her sophomore year for her high school.  She wins various Arizona awards, player of the year, etc.  Lauryn suffered an ACL in June when playing with her club Arizona Select, so I doubt she is playing this year.  Her brother Cameron is a senior who will be playing in college...I think for Colorado.  There is this article about Lauryn as she started high school:

https://arizonapreps.com/lauryn-satterwhite-set-for-big-high-school-debut

http://www.sports360az.com/2015/07/satterwhite-siblings-suffer-knee-injuries-promise-to-return-better-than-ever/

The Baylor WBB boards indicated back in April that their team had been interested in Lauryn.

She is listed as player 100 on Prospects Nation, the #27 pg.

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - Mike - 01-15-2016

Update, Bob:

Lindsay Duvall, 5'11" W, ESPN #10, Prospect Nation #47, elected to stay home and has committed to Kentucky.

If the recent ESPN article (see below) is to be believed (near the end of the piece), both Washington and Stanford are recruiting three-star 2017 5'10" G Jordan Cruz, from McClatchy H.S. in Sacramento. She has quite a story!

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - CompSci87 - 01-15-2016

OT for 2017, but here's a great article on 2016 signee Anna Wilson. It was linked from Stanford WBB's Facebook page.

Sounds like we may have a second Presidential candidate on the team.  :)

It will be interesting to see how Tara plays her, with her and Sniezek sharing the court for 3 years after next year with Lili and Bri still around for their senior years. That is going to be a very crowded backcourt.

If both Sniezek and Wilson both play up to their potential, we are going to have great ball-handlers and floor generals for the next few years.  If Anna can approach the kind of heroics that Russell has done for the Seahawks, we will all be very happy (I am a big Seahawks fan, too).

Had a great time at Cal and Stanford games this weekend🏀, plus we got to see the family @lauryn44 !! #selectfam 😎❤ pic.twitter.com/4Y5LEzqC0

Lauryn is Satterwhite mentioned above as having an offer.  Forbes is from Folsom and actually a 2018, but they play together on an Arizona Travel team.  Forbes's brother was also here yesterday a 2018 also and a big time recruit.

Potential recruit Jordan Cruz 5-10 jr McClatchy HS Sacramento had 44 points with 12 threes the other day.

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - 81alum - 03-11-2016

Jade Williams does not list us as among the colleges she is considering but does list UConn, Notre Dame, etc.  She did say she was interested in medicine after playing D1 basketball, which makes me think she could be a fit for us, depending on her academics.

So far, I'm worried that there are not a lot of posts in the 2017 class who seem like Stanford material.  Just going down the ESPN list and researching all the posts 6'3" and taller does not yield many who are expressing an interest, or who have stories that talk about strong academics.  I imagine some of that will change after the NCAAs and press attention turns to the 2017 recruiting, but at the moment there is not a lot of information about who could step into Erica's or Kailee's scholarships.

Re: WBB: 2017 recruiting - TheFarm07 - 05-09-2016

ESPN Hoopgurlz updated its recruiting rankings for the Class of 2017. The top recruit that is considering us is PG Kiana Williams, who moved up to #12 overall.

Plus, two new players are apparently considering us: 6'3" Wing #20 Maya Dodson and 6'2" Wing #56 Estella Moschkau

Nice! They also updated 2016. Fingall (27) and Carrington (34) moved around a bit, but the big mover was Wilson, up from I believe 58 to 42. That seems much more in line with her performance senior year, if not a little bit low still.

If I remember correctly, a couple years ago, Wilson was a top-15 or top-20 prospect and then for some reason, dropped significantly when they updated their rankings. Hopefully, she'll show that she was deserved of the higher ranking

Actually the new players are listed above. 😎😄

Oops, I forgot about your earlier post. I had been basing it off of Hoopgurlz. Based off of their data, Sidney Cooks is no longer considering us and Lindsey Duvall verbally committed to Kentucky, though that program has been going through some turmoil recently.
