Has anyone else found that the absence of Stanford women, or Pac-12 women for that matter, on the US Women's Basketball team has made it hard to care about that sport during these olympics?
No, for me, it hasn't. It would have been cool to have Nneka out there, but beyond that and maybe Chiney, which current WNBA player that came from a Pac-12 school would have made it?
The US is blessed with womens basketball talent and a lot of that talent are UConn grads. I would certainly raise bias if Bria Hartley or Kelly Faris made the team, but Maya Moore, Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird are still three of the best players out there. Yes, Taurasi and Bird might not be in their 20s anymore, but they are still very darn talented.
The only change I would make is subbing Breanna Stewart for Candace Parker or Nneka, especially based on this season's form (and that's no knock against the amazing Stewart), but how can you argue against Elena Delle Donne, the reigning WNBA MVP or Britney Griner or Angel McCoughtry? The depth of talent for the US is amazing. The players that did not make the team like Nneka, Chiney, Skylar Diggins, Parker, Cappie Pondexter, etc. could challenge for a gold medal themselves.
No matter who you choose, you are gonna leave some great players off and that is a great problem to have.

I am not quite so charitably inclined. Nneka is the best player in WBB this year, with 71% field goal percentage. She is virtually tied with Bri Stewart for points and rebounds, but is 26% higher in percentage. She is much more experienced. Yes, Bri does some things that Nneka does not do. But what about Tina Charles? Charles is also 26% behind Nneka. Leaving Nneka off was just inexcusable.

The roster was announced on April 27th before the WNBA season started, so Nneka hadn't had her phenomenal season yet. I agree that based on experience, Parker or Nneka would have better candidates than Breanna Stewart, but the committee couldn't have known how well Nneka would be playing this season.

MVB bronze match is down to 5th set. I woke up to see US down 2 sets to nothing and tied 2-2 in the third. Since then, US has overpowered Russia. Now starting set 5.

Hard to believe all the service faults with the match on the line.

Win 5th set 15-13 after being slightly behind first half of final match. Got ahead to the point where they had 3 match points. Add 2 bronze to the collection for a total of 27 medals, most ever for Stanford. 14 gold, 7 silver and 6 bronze.
Erik Shoji had some incredible digs that led to points. The setter, Christensen from Southern Cal, was incredible. His sets kept Russian blockers flat footed and he even successfully chased a bad pass from the other side of the net.

Wonderful. Does this break the record for most medals in an olympiad for Stanford affiliates?

Yes. Previous record was 25 in Beijing. It is the second highest number of gold medals. Record for gold is 18 in Atlanta. This is based on data at
