Jay Tyler back to return a punt. Is that the first time we've heard his name all season?
Some fans thought he could be a major part of the offense this year.

You miss the facts, BC, that Chryst has been damaged by being not the chosen one and Burns has been damaged by being taken out just when he was on a roll. WTF is going on with the Offense and the powers that be!

Explain to me again why Burns is the answer.
How was that Burns' fault? Our center was utterly dominated.

Burns was oblivious to the defender in his face. That defender should not have been in his face mind you, but Burns is sorely lacking in pocket awareness.
Scanning the field -- a trait Burns has yet to consistently demonstrate -- does more than simply help find a viable passing target. It also allows the quarterback to pick up defenders. Burns gets locked onto one target far too often. The reason he does that is because he's waiting for the selected receiver to get open, which in itself is a bad habit.
Burns makes pre-snap reads, but he so far hasn't demonstrated the ability to consistently deviate from those reads when the post-snap action dictates he should.

Burns's inconsistency when he runs is almost as frustrating as his passing inconsistency for me. He looks good when it works...

I can buy that to an extent. But the solution to that would seem to be to stop putting Chryst in on the third drive, not making a wholesale change to Chryst. Until there is evidence that Chryst would be better, I don't see a reason to change.

Irwin. Period.

What I find striking about Burns is: how rare it is when he escapes the pocket, he's able to find another option on the pass.
Big error by Shaw to punt here -- should've gone for it.

That's two plays in a row Burns opted to scramble around the end when he had holes in the line he could run through. He is not fast enough to do that.

Nice punt. We are winning the battle of field position. We need to finish a drive. Key to get a D stop here and get the ball back with good FP.

Feeling pessimistic again after that last Stanford punt. The defense is not good enough to hold ND scoreless in the second half. And Stanford's offense is clearly not consistent enough to drive down the field five yards at a time. No big plays, no possibility of big plays.

Of course. But that's a battle I've stopped fighting.

If we can pull this out without CMAC and with 3 turnovers . . . amazing.

Safety! Defense does it with telekinesis!

Hope springs eternal when you're playing a mistake-prone team. Safety, and it's a one-point game!

Two more points for the defense. That now makes it 16-15 in favor of the defense over the past 2.75 games, if I'm counting correctly.

I agree, but if we lose this one (Les Miserables vs. Les Rocket Scientistes), I'll do a U-turn from a previous post on a previous thread and ask for a burn of Costello's redshirt. He needs the experience, particularly since Mills might be completing strongly in 2018.
PS--I KNEW we would get a safety!

We should just give the other team the ball each time ala The Waterboy.

I don't think Burns is that great and would be happy if Costello overhauled him -- in 2017. As I think we've discussed ad infinitum true freshmen quarterbacks nearly always stink.*
*(though to be fair it seems like the number of quality freshmen QBs is on the increase. Jalen Hurts this year has been impressive.)

Wow, they are just highlighting each and every offensive linemen suffering a breakdown.
