Consolation TD.

Re: Stanford-Oregon game thread - scorecard - 11-12-2016

Oregon doesn't look well-coached.  Even the Duck's push ups are sloppy after a TD.

Re: Stanford-Oregon game thread - stupac2 - 11-12-2016

Well, that was fun. Gotta love when half the opponent's score is in garbage time and they still barely get half your score.

Way ahead of you there! Though I wish my half barrel were cold for this game.

Let's all hope/pray that Thomas is okay and will play against Cal.

Re: Stanford-Oregon game thread - washingtonismoney - 11-12-2016

Apparently Thomas could've come back in but Shaw felt the game was out of reach: https://twitter.com/StanfordSports/status/797603560091308032

We laugh, but if Davis Mills is as good as advertised......

Lesson from this year has to be that QB depth--and thus competition--is critical

We had 3 highly rated QBs this year, spread out nicely by age.  90+% of the Power 5 teams would have salivated over our brood, so depth was not the problem.  There was competition, by definition, and the coaching team made their decision and that decision has proved to be wrong.  I personally think that if Shaw had gone to Chryst from game 1, we might now be salivating about our prospects in the "pick 6" group for the FCB.  I see the future as follows:

--10-3 finish with a good bowl win
--Chyst taking us to FCB next year.  How far?  Who knows but we can dream....
--Chryst goes to play on Sunday next year and then we will have two and out years from Costello and then Mills and then we will all sleep happily ever after,,,,

Re: Stanford-Oregon game thread - BostonCard - 11-13-2016

Don't forget Jack West after Mills.

But history shows that at least one and probably more of those QB's won't pan out.

Hum, I would not be so sure. Chryst had no experience starting before this season, and for all we know, his command of the game could have been even worse than what he displayed against Arizona and OSU. I posit that had he started, we'd have lost 1 or perhaps 2 of the KSU-UCLS-U.SC gauntlet. Which together with the almost certain losses to UW and WSU (our lines were overmatched, partially due to injuries), would still have us at 7-3 or 6-4 at this point in the season.

David Shaw might have made the wrong choice at the beginning of the season (and even that is debatable), but the season might not have panned out very differently if he had not.
