I liked seeing a bit more action from Alfieri.    Hopefully he can work his way into a true starting role.  Needed with Barton out and our weekness in the middle.

One of the adjustments I noticed in the second half was more snaps for Palma & Alfieri. Unfortunately Perez still saw too many snaps as evidenced by his PI after three whiffs and being beaten badly by the TE in the first half.

I really look forward to seeing more of Alfieri he seems to have a nose for the ball but I'm not sure how he is in pass coverage.

I did notice that Perez had 8 tackles with 3 solo.

Unfortunately it's the tackles Perez does NOT make that are hurting us.  IMHO he's a 'tweener, too small to be a stout run stopper and too slow to cover most receivers coming through his zone and ultimately too slow to range laterally to run the ball carrier down.  Remember, he wasn't even on the two-deep before the Rice game.  But with Alfieri and Palma perhaps injured and Barton out for the year, he's suddenly out there a lot -- and they are running at him and completing passes through his coverage.

I'm sure it's an unfair comparison but Blake Martinez was neither the biggest nor fastest LB out there -- but he sure made plays.

I wonder if Perez is better suited to play strong safety. We've had plenty of good strong safeties in the past who were (it seems) slower than Perez but who positioned themselves well, tackled well, and were big hitters. Maybe Perez would be better suited there. (Though I realize we have a bevy of safeties.)

Or the so-called big nickel, which I believe first came about when Hemschoot alternated there with Amanam at Utah in '13.

Except, you still need speed at that position to cover receivers.  I don't see enough speed in him to play that position.

Nor quick change of direction
