First goal was on a penalty kick. 26 seconds later FSU gets another goal.
It will be very tough to catch up from two down.

Goal Stanford, now 1-2 with ~40 min left in the second half

Trailing 3-1 with 29 minutes to go.
4+1 with less than 15 to go. Clearly FSU was a superior team today.

Before today, Stanford had allowed just 10 goals in its 24 games, with no more than one goal allowed in any game. I did not expect Stanford to give up 5 goals in the championship game. Oh well.
Overall, it was a really good season. Congrats to the team!

FSU starts 7 seniors. Stanford starts 7 underclassmen (Jasmine Aikey, who's earned at least 1 point in every NCAA playoff game she's played, is still only 18 years old.) And we have 3, perhaps 4, top 15 players in next year's class (depending on what Thompson ultimately decides to do). This was a great run for a very young squad. The future looks bright for the Cardinal. Can't wait to see this team play in the ACC next season! (Heads up though, we may be short quite a few players in the middle of the season for the U20 world cup - August 31 to September 22).

I hope the incoming players are FAST -- our speed deficit was painfully obvious in the college cup.
But a really really successful season, finishing second in the nation is a major feat, especially in soccer. Congrats to the entire team, coaches and staff!

I am thrilled that a team with so much youth and with such an entering class came in 2nd in the nation this year. The future is bright. This is as well as a team can possibly do without winning the natty. Such an optimistic feel about WSOC, quite different from how I felt after Ole Miss and WBB last spring. Looking forward to following our WSOC team more closely next year. That said, watching the final match was not nearly as much fun as nearly every other match ;(

Just looking at the bracket, 5 of the final 8 teams will be in the ACC next year.

Defender Gisele Thompson is fast, not exactly as fast as her sister, but world class fast (Gisele ran 100 in 11.87 seconds last year; Alyssa has run it in 11.74). Thompson would be an upgrade from Wesley speed wise if she doesn't go pro (committed to Stanford but still hasn't signed her LOI yet). So fingers crossed there.
Also, I like this quote from our GK Ryan Campbell tonight. (Would seem to suggest she is coming back for her COVID season. Despite the result tonight, she's an incredible keeper.)
“It’s not something my coach or my teammates are happy about,” Campbell said. “But
we will come out hungry
next year. I know these girls are fighters and
we’re going to make a statement
from game one next August.”

The Pac-12 sure ended in a down year. Besides us, the rest of the Pac-12 won only one game in the tournament. Besides FSU, the rest of the ACC won 8 games in the tournament. We had 2 All-Americans (Aikey and Evans) and the rest of the Pac-12 had 3; Florida State with 5 had as many as the entire Pac-12, and the rest of the ACC had 5 more.

Not a surprise, but disappointing nonetheless. Gisele Thompson just decided to go pro (signed with Angel City).

I agree. We are quite thin at the midfield position. I wonder if Bhuta will move back to MF

I hope she'll be able to, we need her speed and ball handling there. That's her listed position and where she started out playing last year, until we needed to shore up our outside back situation. I hope between our returning players and the incoming ones we can get at least two good starters for the backline.

I hope so as well. But it’s not very clear who plays RB then.
Next year Doms and Wesley are big shoes to fill even though it’s not a lot of open positions.
We need
- a Doms replacement: likely either Bhuta to MF with a new RB or Aikey with a CF replacement.
- a new CB for Wesley and since she and Evans played almost every minute and with Thompson not coming, I have no idea who the options are.
- an impact sub at R/LF - Maybe Grilione emerges
- an impact sub at CF - Maybe Wolfe or Lumi emerge
- a year of physical development for Jung
