82 Card - 10-14-2023
For those who didn't check back in in time to catch the second half heroics or would like to live it again, a search of my Comcast schedule indicates that replay is scheduled at 10/14 1:30 am on 724 on 823 ESPND (ie. started already). On Tuesday thru Friday, the 1 hour version will be in frequent rotation on the PAC12 feeds (National, Bay Area and Mountain).
On the ESPN replay, they rushed through the first half to get to the fun half.

Looks like ESPN Analytics had it at 99.7% Colo at halftime.

From Sadford to Stunford...
What's perhaps most stunning to me is that the CUmback (it's ok we'll think of something better later) happened without a turnover by the team with the 29-0 lead. Can that be said about any of the other classic comebacks in Pac-12 history?
Any highlight reel of 2023 CFB will include Ayomanor's amazing OT catch over hypeboy and future NFL slot receiver Travis Hunter, and I love it.
S. Jorgensen: 3 tackles, 1 sack and apparently a significant number of inspiring halftime words. Always listen to your walk-ons, people!
I have no idea why there's a punting battle going on, or if TT hates all running backs, or how the hell Colorado scored a two-point conversion on a gimmick play that Stanford was lined up to be "ready" for.
But those are all questions for another day, as I finally go to sleep knowing that Stanford will not be going 0-fer in conference play *in the final year of the conference,* which would not have been something that you can quite live down. Now is the time to dream of continued stable QB play and spectacular WR performances, as well as a defense capable of actually defending. Good night, and, as a guy wearing a gold jacket once said, “If your dream ain't bigger than you, there's a problem with your dream."

Now, off to watch on ESPN replay. Thank goodness for that.....

I'll double down on that humble pie. I watched the entire game this morning. Loved that Stanford got 408 yards after halftime. Neon said he could feel his team get complacent. I don't know about complacent, but wow were they undisciplined. 17 penalties, twice their game average. Incidentally, when Coach McIntyre was at SJSU, his team was the second least penalized team in the country.
Denver Gazette is calling it one of the worst losses in program history.
Ayomanor was INCREDIBLE. I'll watch every game from now on, start to finish, just to see that man catch a football.
Leading into the game, Coach Neon said "late kickoff games are the stupidest thing ever invented." Right there with you, coach. And good of the CU broadcast system to play music while Stanford was on offense, but better for the ref to pick up on it and threaten a penalty...
Bring on the Bruins!

I would be a little bit concerned if I were a reporter at the post-game press conference. Coach Deion Sanders just might spontaneously detonate behind the podium.
not to mention his defensive coordinator.

I don't understand why Colorado opted to be on offense after winning the toss. I think it's better to go second, and their choice enabled Stanford to go second both times.
All right now! Didn’t see that one coming especially at halftime. Couldn’t happen against a more deserving guy.
Couldn't agree more.! Deion is a narcissistic clown of the first order!!!!
No, he isn’t. He’s one of the greatest athletes of our time , who also happens to be a marketing genius. Smart. Great with the media. All in all good for college football. I really don’t understand the “narcissist“ stuff.
Love the come back love the win. One of the more unexpected results I can recall. Right there with SC upset.
If you want to actually learn a little more about him read “The Athletic” article about what type of baseball teammate Deion was. To summarize, the primetime stuff ended the second he walked in the locker room. His teammates loved him. He was particularly kind and generous to those that were fringe players. This is several teammates being interviewed. All of them with glowing comments.
Does he self promote? Sure he does. Athletes have short careers. Why shouldn’t he make money off of his brilliance and his name. A hell of a lot of people made a hell of a lot of money off of him.

Are you kidding me??? A great athlete, sure. He's also a terrible person and role model.
Check out the video footage from his first team meeting. He announced to the whole team that he was coming with his own luggage "and it's Louie [Vuitton]" (read: players from the portal) and that the current players were scrubs who weren't good enough for him. Imagine being one of those student-athletes in that room and your first introduction to your new head coach involves being told that you need to find a new place to go to school because your scholarship at Colorado is gone.
This wasn't an isolated incident either. There was a press conference a few weeks back where it was clear he didn't even know the name of his starting center. There are 254 Division 1 football programs and I can guarantee you that 253 other head coaches know the name of their starting center.
You got one thing right though. He's definitely getting his money. Good for him. Promote yourself and your sons and everyone else is inconsequential. Disgusting.
And none of that is even touching on his history of domestic violence issues.

I'm not sure why we have to choose. Deion's a narcissist
and a marketing genius
and well, I won't say a great coach, because he's only been at it for three years, but he certainly has some skills. Anyone with even a passing familiarity of college football history knows this combination of traits is not exactly rare. What is new is Deion's ability to grab attention in social media and cable TV.
Whether he's able to continue making a success of it is up to him. I'd observe we have a lot of guys these days who loosely fit this description, and the vast majority of them don't build anything lasting.
RE: Colorado game thread -

One more note on Deion and then I’ll stop. The domestic violence issue was a mess and a classic case of “he said, she said.” But even if you take Deion’s side and think he was without fault, consider the fact that he filmed his own children filling out a police report that he then posted it to social media.
Think about how depraved an individual must be to be so concerned about promoting their individual brand that they are willing to exploit their own children’s trauma. It’s sociopathic.

Sure read like an innocent, in-context compliment to me. It's not noteworthy that a Black man is articulate; more so that any FB coach is articulate, let alone one who'd just suffered the worst defeat of his career and who's especially recently been the subject of criticism (or adulation) for being flashy and clicks-collecting.

Or perhaps it’s someone that is concerned that if he doesn’t get the story out, he’s going to be made the bad guy. So, suffice it to say we disagree.
In any event, great Stanford win very exciting. I’ll end with that – something we certainly can agree on!

I love Deion.
I'm tempted to borrow, and then adapt, Gore Vidal's definition of a narcissist:
it's someone better looking--and more confident--than you are.
Listen attentively to his interviews,
I am consistently impressed with this sincerity, conviction, intelligence, concision, passion, and--yes--humility.
He believes in himself; but, having experienced the success that he has, how could he not?
Also going with the '71 Rose Bowl as the program's greatest win ever.
Our opponent would have been named national champions had we not beaten them.
Hope springs eternal,
HB.
