Not a good start to the singles either, we are down an early break in 3 of the 6 matches, including a double break in Arbuthnott's match

Make that down a break (in 2 matches 2 breaks) in 5 of the 6. Hopefully, it's just a slow start and we'll be able to rally

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - BostonCard - 05-23-2017

Well, Higuchi is uncharacteristically down two breaks (0-4), while Arbuthnott is down 0-3.

3. FL *3-2
4. ST *3-3
5. FL *4-1
6. FL 4-0*

Not pretty. Emma Higuchi 22-0 in duals the year, gets bageled in the first set.

And she's facing 3 break points in her opening service game in the 2nd set

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - DC 86 - 05-23-2017

Lampl wins the first set and Lord serving for the first set, Stanford trying to get something going.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - DC 86 - 05-23-2017

Stanford showing heart after a rough start - Lampl, Lord and Davidson win their respective first sets, so there's a chance.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - TheFarm07 - 05-23-2017

Even if Davidson, Lord and Lampl can all hold onto their leads, we need a comeback from one of the other 3 matches to win.

Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it will be Higuchi who is 2 games away from being double bageled.

Doyle is down an early break in the 2nd, so right now it might be Arbuthnott who is 2-2 in the second

ESPNU is showing the match.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - TheFarm07 - 05-23-2017

Well, what a way for Higuchi's 22-match winning streak in duals to end, in a 6-0, 6-0 loss.

In 2 of the 3 matches where we won the first set, Florida has a lead in the second. Lord is the only one with a break to her advantage in the 2nd.

Arbuthnott has to rally for a break down in the second, already down a set.

Doyle is tied at 3-3 in the second but down a set.

So we have a lot of work still left.

Wow!  What a homer announcer.  Not one positive word about Stanford in 5 minutes.  If a Florida player loses the point, they lost it but Stanford didn't win it.  They're focusing on the matches that Stanford is doing poorly.  Florida's Woolcock is now 3-3 in the second, and they emphasize how wonderful she's doing.

Did ESPN have a memo to ignore any thing positive about Stanford?

I actually haven't gotten that vibe, just that Stanford is fighting for its life.

And the homer announcer is a Stanford man.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - TheFarm07 - 05-23-2017

Doyle just lost. We need to win the remaining 4 matches to win and it could be a 4-0 sweep with Arbuthnott fighting to stay in it late in the second set.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - DC 86 - 05-23-2017

Arbuthnott forces a third set and keeps hope alive.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - BobK - 05-23-2017

Announcer is excellent.  Not his fault Florida is doing so well

Bad news is that Taylor Davidson is hurt and has been getting treatment for a while from the trainer, will try to continue but not able to move well.

That is not good, as she is already down a break in the 3rd and a loss clinches it for Florida

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - TheFarm07 - 05-23-2017

Lord wins 6-4, 7-5, so it won't be a clean sweep for the Gators. Florida still up 3-1.

Lampl and Arbuthnott on serve in the 3rd, but Davidson trying to get the break back.

Re: NCAA Women's Tennis Tournament - TheFarm07 - 05-23-2017

Might be close to the end. Davidson facing a 2-5 deficit in the 3rd and after going up a break each, Lampl and Arbuthnott gave up their leads to go back on serve
