I don't know that playcalling has had much to do with this game.

One team is dominating in the trenches, and that usually means a win.

that has not worked all day.  Terrible call.

They are stuffing us on the run.  He is blitzing right, laying back to mix it up.
He is ahead of Shaw and Bloomgren.

Through three quarters, we have 160+ yards rushing on 7.1 yards per cary. Yes, that's helped by a 75 yard run, but we've gotten some decent gains otherwise, so it is hard to say that they are stuffing us on the run.  Chryst is averaging 4.7 yards per attempt passing.  I would say that our inability to mount much of a passing attack has hampered us more than the lack of a run.

I'm not exactly shocked the defense is outmatched here, but the OL has been just awful pass blocking. And my goodness has the play calling been bad, everything is telegraphed.

Boys, it's spelled "P-L-A-Y  A-C-T-I-O-N."  Give it a try.

Playcalling always looks worse when you are getting dominated on the line of scrimmage.

The defense gives us a couple of opportunities and we can't move the ball. Not looking good.

It might have if we could block. I've not seen our line so porous in years. Just awful.

Re: Stanford vs. SC Game Thread - gocard14 - 09-09-2017

Agreed, but it's hard to blame Chryst for our lack of passing game. Pass blocking has been abysmal. 4 man rush with stunts is getting home quickly, and more importantly is putting pressure right in Chryst's face and not letting him step into throws. O line has to step it up.

Re: Stanford vs. SC Game Thread - dabigv13 - 09-09-2017

Feels like the only way we get back in this is a defensive score.

For what it is worth, I thought we were going to need to run some play action from time to time to keep the defense honest.  Problem, of course, is that play action only works if your offensive line can hold a block for more than a second.

He has no time to throw. Several passes batted down.

That play is going to end up on the SC motivational video this week. Embarrassed several of our guys there.

Agreed.  Partly poor blocking by the line.  PArtly poor throwing by the QB.

At this point, we are going to get to see USC's blind snapper again.

Re: Stanford vs. SC Game Thread -- S.Carr hurts us again - ADPATERSON - 09-09-2017

That was Simmons #2 on the FIRST whiff, then Buncom (#5).
Carr was a legit 5star out of H.S. -- has some shakes.
Out to the 30.  DAMN!  We needed a blocked punt near their end.
