All the metrics would be for this.  I'm pleased Shaw made the right call.  Even if you go for it and don't make it, you are not that much worse off than had you kicked the field goal.  And if you gain one yard you win the game.

Yeah, not a whole lot of possessions to be had.  Two touchdowns, one field goal, a missed field goal, a punt, and two end of half drives.

I think that’s it, no?

Next week, against WSU.  The game against Utah is meaningless for UW who is out of the hunt.

That's it.  I can't believe that I thought we would drop 50 on the bears.

Definitely, the metrics say go for it on 4th and 1, anywhere on the field, coaches just rarely do, even in plus territory.  Shaw said after the game it wasn't even a decision, they were going for it in that spot for sure.

yes, that was what I meant - forgot tonight's game, which is also still close....speaking of which, this saves me from having to find a replacement for "Stranger Things" tonight  :D

Re: Big Game thread - BostonCard - 11-18-2017

We got the interception with 7:25 on the clock.  Cal never got the ball back.  Give it up for Cameron scarlett, who had 10 tough rushes for 47 yards, including the critical fourth down to ice it.

Every play on the last drive ( except the kneel downs)  went to Cameron. I thought it was 11 straight but maybe 10. Very clutch. And we will need him against ND.

Re: Big Game thread - washingtonismoney - 11-18-2017

Cam was impressive. Good to know he can be a valuable piece in clutch situations.

The scoreboard is deceptive: Stanford had 6.2 yards per play (once kneels are taken out) versus the 59ers’ 5.7 yards per play. That is the defense was more the problem.

Holding the bears to 14 is a pretty good result.

Thanks to Ross Bowers for being in such a giving mood.

Well there were virtually no possessions in the game. Giving up 5.7 ypp is a mediocre performance.

This is largely because cal was more or less playing Stanford-style and there were very few possessions in the game.
Stanford had 7 total: FG, Punt, TD, half (technically INT), TD, missed FG, end of game.
Cal had 6 total: FG, missed FG, FG, Punt, TD, INT.

Re: Big Game thread - martyup - 11-18-2017

We have a chance to win the Pac-12 north, but remember how we needed a near miracle fumble recovery to beat the hapless Beavers?  What a season.

Re: Big Game thread - winflop - 11-18-2017

As in golf, they don't ask how, they just ask how many. Here's the how many:
- 8 Big Game wins in a row
- Shaw joins Club Willingham with his 7th consecutive Big Game victory
- Shaw passes Pop Warner to become the all-time winningest head coach with 72 wins (and only 20 losses)
- 7-2 Stanford clinches at least a share of the North Division crown
- 7 straight bowl appearances including 5 NY6 games

That was an ugly as hell win - second-worst of the season - but it's a win and we keep #OurAxe
