Re: Class of 2014 - Bruce Wang - 06-26-2013

Hard to pass up a chance to play with this guy. Still Stanford is Stanford.

Re: Class of 2014 KY + IBS position designation - Bruce Wang - 06-26-2013

The Jacksonville Jaguars have given Dernard Robinson the position designation of OW as in Offensive Weapon.  Sounds appropriate for Kelsey Young and Isaiah Brandt-Sims.

Surreal...overused word of the year - Redrum - 06-26-2013

"It's almost just too surreal, I can't believe this just happened," Phillips said. "A year ago, two years ago, five years ago I don't think you could have asked anybody if I would be on the phone with Bo Pelini getting a full ride offer to play at Nebraska."

Maybe Wisconsin's making Bo Pellini wear his ass for a hat in the Big Ten championship game had something to do with it.

Equanimeous St. Brown has to be a unanimous selection to the All Name Team.

Re: Class of 2014 - yvonne - 06-26-2013

I saw him in the East West Bowl. He was really good.

Re: Class of 2014 - FarmBoy - 06-26-2013

I gotta say, this flurry of information and "commitments" is making me feel a lot better about our recruiting momentum. I don't know how it compares to other schools (is this just a hot time in general for commitments?) but in a vacuum, it's nice to see excitement for Stanford from good prospects.

Quote:St. Brown is a 4.0 GPA student who also speaks four languages (French, Spanish, German, English)

Yowza. "Accomplished" is an understatement. Admissions seems like an achievable hurdle.

Re: Class of 2014 - StannyBoy - 06-26-2013

the latest rumor is Keller Chryst to the good guys. Hasn't been confirmed by anyone affiliated with Rivals or Scout though so the newest commit could be someone else. Matt Nelson also announces tomorrow.

Re: Class of 2014 - stan01 - 06-26-2013

I'm not used to seeing Iowa and Nebraska as our top competition for recruits.  I looked at our roster and discovered that David Parry is from Iowa.  Here are the Iowa boards discussing David's recruitment back in 2009: http://www.hawkeyenation.com/forum/recruiting/1630-david-parry-ol-linn-mar.html

Parry and Iowa and Stanford - Redrum - 06-26-2013

Parry is now getting the playing time, exposure, accolades and best of all...Stanford tuition money that a high school commit would receive from the git-go.  Great story for a great player and I'll bet they did anything they could to get the Nelson and Parry together.  I think Parry would make it clear that it was better to walk on at Stanford than play with a full scholarship in Iowa.

Re: Class of 2014 - Hey - 06-26-2013

I love watching vids of the incoming freshmen, and I specifically remember Parry's tape being one of the most dominating performances I'd seen so far.  One guy in that Iowa thread even remarked "I started counting how many times he put people on their back, then I just realized it was pretty much every time..."  (Parry also played left tackle on offense.)

The worst incoming freshmen video I'd seen?  Terrence Brown.  I can say this and not feel bad because I thought he really shined for us this past year.  He was also recruited by Oregon, so he clearly had some talent.  But that video was comically awful.  I don't think it's posted anymore, but in his own, and very short, highlight video he had several pass interference penalties and catches allowed, and probably a missed tackle as well.  I was really proud to see how he overcame his own highlight video!

Kind of begs the question as to why anyone would make and distribute a video like this. Virtually any decent HS player has some good plays he could put on a highlight video.

Parry's video: Nice pancakes - Redrum - 06-27-2013

But it was SO distracting to have Parry identified just about when the play was over.  It was like the guy inserting the circle around the player of interest was editing two different videos simultaneously or playing a video game while putting together Parry's video.  Or maybe it was Parry himself.  But it's nice to know who you are looking for before the play starts, particularly when the players are teeny-tiny on the screen.  I've seen self-produced videos from players in small towns in Utah that managed to get that part of player video promotion right.

Chryst on Hogan: "Nice guy, but why does he talk so much?"

In non-Keller Chryst news, reportedly Alijah Holder looked "very good" at a camp today: https://twitter.com/bartonsimmons/status/350707734523551744
