This was expected; he was either transferring or going abroad somewhere. Remember in our tourney games he lost his starting spot and came off the bench.
Wishing the best for Delaire in his future, but this is not bad for our team.

3 more transfer prospects:
- Brown PF Jaylan Gainey
- Indiana State PG Tyreke Key
- North Dakota SG Paul Bruns (freshman)

I think Delaire's ceiling is high--but he sure wasn't getting close to that under Haase. Delaire needs to work on shot selection, and he needs to be getting the ball in the post, not 25 feet from the basket.
I hope he finds a good landing spot and gets a chance to play in the Tourney.

Getting the ball 20 feet away was a killer as it would be for most. Stupid offense. You’re so right Burger

Why does this* keep happening.?
* This being a player who works up to be a starter, loses his starting spot, and transfers.

In Delaire's case, I think he tried to do too much. Why? Could be he was being selfish or could be that he really wanted his team to win and wasn't confident that the other players could get it done. Either way, it wasn't working. I wish Ingram would have been more selfish because I think he could have got it done. Ultimately, it is the coach's job to get his players to play as a team.

I was also thinking of Daejon Davis.

Don't forget Bryce Wills (I know he graduated, but he had another year of eligibility left).

Question for Sam McFadden… are the guys we are recruiting from the transfer wire likely to be better than Jones, for all his limitations?

You mean Delaire, right? Please tell me Jones isn't transferring.
I looked quickly through the stats of those transfers, and they all seemed to be productive but not star level.

Yeah, not sure why I had Spencer Jones on my mind.
Productive is good, but what is their level of competition?

Guys "transferring up" by their very nature play weaker competition. That's why they're transferring up in the first place. (Or in the case of Ivy guys, because Ivies don't do 5th years and they legitimately have to go somewhere else.)

They are almost all guards. We need another guard.
We have enough forwards to replace Delaire (and in fact already did in the last 2 games - Brandon Angel played significantly more minutes).

That’s fair, but the quote I was responding to was “

“Productive but not star level” against inferior competition would maybe project to what in the PAC-12?
Don’t get me wrong, if they can contribute, especially at a position of need, then great. But I’m kind of thinking of our transfer QB here, who fit the bill of “productive but not star level” against inferior competition at Air Force, and wound up being a feel good story who mostly served as a backup and came in to run a few plays. Or even the women’s basketball transfer, who came from a major conference school (Northwestern, as I recall), but has played sparingly.

I disagree with "productive but not star level." Maybe you'd like to see the stats for yourself?
Moses Flowers: 14.1ppg, 6.3rpg, 2apg, shot 36% from 3
Andrew Funk:17.6ppg, 3.6rpg, 3apg, shot 36% from 3
Sam Griesel: 14.3 ppg, 6.6 rpg, 3.4 apg, and shot 38% from 3
Divant'e Moffitt: 19.3 ppg, 3.8 rebounds and 3.8 assists per game (and shot 80% FTs!)
Jaylan Gainey: 9.3 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 2.1 bpg(!!!), 2x Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year
- I think this one is fair to say "productive but not star level," though clearly the guy can defend. Also the only forward on the list.
Tyreke Key '20-'21: 17.2 ppg, 5.3 rpg, 2.0 apg; 31.6% 3pt, 84% FT (had shoulder surgery and sat out this season)
Paul Bruns:14.8 ppg, 5.7 rpg; 37% 3pt, 82% FT AS A FRESHMAN
Also, unlike all these guys, you'll note that Isaiah Sanders started JUST SIX GAMES IN HIS FOUR-YEAR AIR FORCE CAREER. He was therefore not "productive" at all. He was a backup who had 2 legitimately good games.

Agree, Sam - I'd checked these players' stats after the initial post and was also duly impressed. The only question mark was that Flowers "opted out" of participating the 20-21 season after 9 games - don't know what that was about - COVID? That said, he did come back strong this year.

I tried to find all-conference teams for the conferences these guys are in, but had no luck. Do you guys know if any of them were all—conference selections?

Almost every single one was either 1st or 2nd team all conference, as far as I could find. Bruns was conference ROTY as a freshman but not on the all-conference team, and couldn't find Flowers.

I don’t recall seeing the news here that Keenan Fitzmorris entered the portal. Not a significant loss from a basketball perspective, but still worth noting. Will Haase field a full roster next year? Will the attrition of 5th year seniors allow Haas me to recruit incoming transfers who are actually able to contribute more?
