I hate to break it to you, but their band is one of the few programs of theirs that the rest of the nation would rate ahead of Stanford's. I think 15, 0, maybe even 5 years ago Stanford's was fresh and irreverent. Now they've become sometimes amusing sometimes stale parody of themselves. Otherwise you wouldn't have 17 pages of consternation, infighting, and debate among one another over your own band.

If you've actually read the 17 pages, you'd find that most of it was healthy debating and most of it supported our band (and we are mature enough to be able to criticize our own where necessary), in addition to how little Iowa fans understood what we are about. It's ok if you don't get it. Thanks for hanging out with us in a positive manner. Maybe see you here next year!

The uniforms work too!

Guess I've never viewed the "our band vs. other bands" as an "either-or" thing.

I enjoy our band immensely, but I certainly also enjoyed the Southern University band per jacketree's link. Thanks for sharing.

Especially enjoyed the dancing by all the band members towards the end (first the entire band together, then the three featured band members). For those who didn't bother watching the video, you should at least check out the part starting at 6:10 and ending at about 7:15 - worth a minute+ of your life.

Thanks, Mick!  That was a particularly good rendition.

Oh, and the guy who wrote that article is an idiot, too.

The nutjob Iowa state senator who authored the bill is also an advocate of capital punishment for deported undocumented felons who re-enter the U.S. And he's currently running for a seat in Congress.

This is just a great example of how egregiously low politicians can be.  Obviously he believes there are enough butthurt Iowans that he can make political hay on this issue.  Sheesh.  Next thing you know they are going to pass laws to make questioning climate change punishable with a cat o' nine tails.

In terms of value of entertainment to time, that five minute field show might be the most fun thing that's ever happened.  It just keeps giving!

Also, it's real weird to me to see a state map with only four congressional districts...

I'm finding that I like the show's aftermath WAY more than I liked the actual show.

Okay, I'll take your word for it, retract that statement, acknowledge he may be a budding Pulitzer winner, and apologize to anyone who may have been offended by my remark.

But, IMHO, everything he says in the article about the Band or the show [except, perhaps, that the show wasn't particularly funny] is ... idiotic.

Re: Iowa fans discover the Stanford Band - And are very angry and very confused - FireSting81 - 02-04-2016

I take back what I said. I originally said the LSJMB performance at the Rose Bowl was inoffensive but incredibly lame. Well, the fact you trolled some moron (did you even need to look up his party affiliation?) into what is one of the absolute dumbest pieces of legislation put forth in the Iowa Assembly, made it brilliant by default. FYI, Ottumwa, along with the Omaha 'burb of Council Bluffs, is the most embarrassing part of Iowa. If Council Bluffs is the armpit of Iowa, Ottumwa is the crotch. Iowa fans pulled no punches...

In recognition of Iowa's immense political influence and to foster harmony between our great agricultural states, I would fully support a public apology on behalf of the University for the Band's halftime performance, but only under one condition.  I would expect a reciprocal apology for Iowa's performance during the first, second, third and fourth quarters of the 2016 Rose Bowl Game  In a show of good faith, if the football teams should meet again, I propose we leave the Band at home and in exchange Iowa promises to make the game competitive beyond the initial play from scrimmage.

Hilariously, athletic competitions are exempt from the proposed legislation.  So a future Rose Bowl would be fine, but research collaboration to further science and understanding of the human condition?  Perish the thought!

No, I'd settle for Iowa forfeiting every game they ever played against us in addition to lobbying mightily for our inclusion in any championship playoff selection.  Also, the best linemen recruits the midwest can produce.

Re: Iowa fans discover the Stanford Band - And are very angry and very confused - ColoradoTree - 02-04-2016

Glad we don't have people on this board with confederate battle flag (OK, technically the Mississippi state flag, which incorporates it, but that doesn't help its cause in my eyes) on our avatars and comparing the band's show to a minstrel show in blackface and complaining about people being offended by the confederate flag.

I felt uncomfortable reading through that Iowa Rivals thread.Â
