BRANSON BRAGG COMMITTED TO STANFORD

RE: Class of 2019 - OutsiderFan - 06-15-2018

Bragg is the consensus #2 Center nationally, so a pretty good get for Stanford.

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 06-15-2018

Big time Center plus excellent Discus thrower at 190.

RE: Class of 2019 - BostonCard - 06-15-2018

Also, offensive line is a major position of need.  So a nice start.

Also in his tweet, he mentions he was admitted last week.  Had I known he had already been admitted, I would have given this 99% certainty.

Am I the only one who thinks Bragg's future is at guard

What makes you say that?

RE: Class of 2019 - OutsiderFan - 06-17-2018

Bragg said in his Rivals interview that he could play any interior OL position, probably because Carberry is on record as saying he wants all interior OL to learn how to snap the ball.  Stanford did sign Trey Stratford as a top Center prospect in 2018, so it's certainly possible Bragg could move to Guard.

#1 depth chart
#2 I think it's a better use of his talent, he moves too well to not be pulling around and killing LBers

That's interesting because good movement is not what I recalled from the video I saw. So went back to look and discovered I had seen his Soph highlights playing Center. So watched Bragg's Junior highlights playing mostly RT and saw him moving well as a puller. Centers are being asked to move more these days, but no matter where he ends up playing, Bragg is a very physical and violent player who loves hitting guys from snap to whistle.

That's a rough competitor list for anyone, especially the Pac-12 outfit in Berkeley.  But could the Bears have an ace up their sleeve given Latu is a rugby player and Cal is a rugby powerhouse?

More importantly here, is Latu applying to Stanford or just going through the motions publicly?

RE: Class of 2019 - BostonCard - 06-22-2018

Worth noting that we got a commit for 2020.  That's in the class of 2020 thread, which is on a different board, for those who don't know about it or go there often.

Just read on the Cal board that Austin Jones is announcing his college choice on Instagram right now.

RE: Class of 2019 - MiamiCard - 06-29-2018

Tried searching for his IG handle, to no avail. But looks like he just committed per 247. Sweet

You would have thought Stanford fans would have been all over and be aware of landing arguably the highest rated RB recruit the program has ever had.  The #6 rated RB in his class.  I only caught wind of it about 20 minutes ago.

RE: Class of 2019 - MiamiCard - 06-29-2018

his IG is "whorockwitaust". Hes actually live streaming as we speak...rocking the Stanford hat/shirt. Funny stuff and excellent get.

Might behoove him to take a PR class once he enrolls. Announcing anything on a Friday afternoon ...oyyyy!

Actually we Stanford fans have been all over Jones for months.  Thrilled to get Jones.  I suspect Milbutn higher ranked.  Back in the old days with Super Prep

Got me thinking.
At least lately, Stanford has managed to get more out of our RBs than their service ratings might indicate.
Most of our RBs were not particularly highly rated.

So I went through the 247sports rankings to see our RBs since 2000. Here is what I found.

It appears that Jones is approximately tied with Barry Sanders for the top rated RB we have recruited over this time frame, but it may depend upon what exactly what ranking you care about. And of course Jones' ranking may change by the time they close out the 2019 class.
I think that likely Lemon's ranking should be taken with an asterisk as I don't think these rankings were very complete in those early years.

The following list year (entrance into Stanford), overall rating by 247Sports composite, position ranking, name.

2019 - #85/6 RB Austin Jones

2000 - Brandon Royster (no ranking, but rankings weren't extensive)
2001 - #42/9 RB J.R. Lemon
2003 - #191/3 FB Emeka Nnoli
2003 - #221/3 APB David Marrero
2003 - #302/21 RB Jason Evans
2004 - #400/26 RB Ray Jones
2006 - #374/6 FB Toby Gerhart
2007 - #865/60 RB Jeremy Stewart
2008 - #342/8 APB Delano Howell
2009 - #279/33 RB Stepfan Taylor
2009 - #286/2 FB Tyler Gaffney
2010 - #131/10 RB Anthony Wilkerson
2010 - #394/30 RB Ricky Seale
2011 - #166/12 RB Kelsey Young
2011 - #219/16 RB Remound Wright
2012 - #85/4 APB Barry Sanders
2014 - #91/2 APB Christian McCaffrey
2015 - #227/7 APB Bryce Love
2015 - #265/15 RB Cameron Scarlett
2016 - #399/19 RB Trevor Speights
2017 - #192/13 RB Sione Lund

What a great read. Thanks Ctcard.   Wish I had my old Super Prep rankings
