RE: Class of 2022+ - BACardinal - 06-07-2022

Kanaan Carlyle made the USA U-18 team. Played their first game yesterday versus Dominican Republic and today against Ecuador today. I'm very hyped about this recruit. He's extremely quick and active on the defensive end and a great passer.

He subs in at 1:40 in first quarter

Jacobe Johnson has offers for both football (WR) and MBB. Thought this was a nice touch to his football OV.

'23 commit Kanaan Carlyle will play his final HS season with Overtime Elite, but is preserving his college eligibility.

Not a good sign.

Or it could be a good one. Rivals Publisher Ben Parker posted a story on what is going on with Carlyle and OTE.

Rather than play his Senior year for his High School team, he will play it with OTE against much tougher competition. After his final year of high school and playing hoops for OTE, he'll enroll at Stanford. IOW, Stanford should theoretically gain from Carlyle playing a year for OTE rather than his High School, given he should be a better player that way than had he played High School hoops his Senior year. This is what Isa Silva did when he opted to play his Senior season for Prolific Prep rather than his High School team.

Seems like something we will see happen much more frequently, especially with NIL money being allowed.

While Silva played some for Prolific Prep he remained at his HS Jesuit in Sacramento.

RE: Class of 2022+ - BostonCard - 07-28-2022

The issue will be how much of a high school  education he will get at Overtime Elite.  Going to their website, they do have a partnership with Xceed prep, an online prep school. I hope that he has met with the coaching and Stanford academic staff to chart a course as to what is needed to ensure his admission.

I'd find it extremely hard to believe he hasn't.

Xceed Prep offers AP/honors classes and dual enrollment in online college classes. From its website:

"Additional Options: Along with everything we offer in our core Xceed Prep Virtual School program, your child may also choose from honors and AP classes, as well as a dual-enrollment option through the University of Pittsburgh. NCAA approved courses are also available for athletes wanting to continue their sport at the university level."

Andrej Stojakovic, the No. 21 overall prospect in the 2023 class, has cut his list down to six schools.
Duke, Oregon, Stanford, Texas, UCLA and Virginia.

RE: Class of 2022+ - CompSci87 - 08-12-2022

We should split off a fresh MBB recruiting thread soon. Actually it's almost a year overdue if we adopt the same schedule as the WBB recruiting thread. We're now splitting the WBB thread after fall signing day each year. That will make the new thread for 2024+.

Is anyone up for keeping a list of active recruits in the first post, like we do for WBB? If there is a volunteer, we can make them the first poster in the thread so that they can edit that post.

The software only lets threads start with the chronologically first post, so if we want to split existing posts about 2024+ recruits into the new thread, I have to do some trickery so that the new first post really stays first. I'll take care of that once I know who should own the first post.

RE: Class of 2022+ - BostonCard - 08-12-2022

Might I suggest making it easier for yourself by just creating a new thread on national signing day with the skeleton format we use for WBB (signees, offered/interested) plus a link to this thread, and I am sure those in the know can reply with the data. Then unpin this thread and pin the new one.

RE: Class of 2022+ - CompSci87 - 08-12-2022

I don't mind splitting the thread instead of just starting a new one. My main question is if someone who's not already a mod wants to own the first post so they can edit it.
