Cardinal can be plural too ;D

Re: Stanford ND Game thread - martyup - 11-28-2015

That video review of the last ND touchdown probably saved us.  If they would have overruled the call, ND probably would have scored with very little time left.

I think Shaw didn't call timeouts because he was banking on our D stopping their run game.  If he stops the clock, ND might have gone to the air where they were killing us.

Re: Stanford ND Game thread - martyup - 11-28-2015

I don't think CMAC will win the Voldemort,  but our win tonight should get him an invite to NY.  Next year he can win it.

Re: Stanford ND Game thread - Stymie - 11-28-2015

One of the finest games I have ever viewed.  I give a lot of credit to ND for their skills, commitment and honesty.  Either team could have won, but we deserved to.  I am thankful that the best possible Hogan played for us today.  Without him he would have been toast.

Now on to the toejams, and it will be just as difficult a game for us as the one we just experienced, as will any bowl game(s) we are lucky enough to participate in.  Keep your focus, our players, and you will achieve what you deserve.

Thanks for playing along, Good Grief.  Fun game, eh?

I think so too. The face mask saved our bacon as well.

Nope, it's singular

That seems weird, but you know more than me.

Re: Stanford ND Game thread - oldalum - 11-28-2015

no, unfortunately it's plural too. We have regrettably imported the British usage of allowing singular nouns that refer to groups to be treated as plural. The dictionary may not have caught up to it, but a singular team name can be used with a plural verb, and in my recent experience I think that is being done a majority of the time now in the U.S.

Re: Stanford ND Game thread - OutsiderFan - 11-28-2015

So right about the Kizer TD.  It's shocking to me that wasn't overturned.  I love the irony that gifting ND a TD it didn't earn is actually what ended up costing them the game.

Can't say it was a great game from an aesthetic perspective because Stanford's D was generally atrocious.  But then again, I guess ND's was too, in the final analysis because they lost.  But watching the game it sure seemed ND was the clearly physically superior team in a way that hadn't been the case in the last several meetings.

Re: Stanford ND Game thread - Rally - 11-28-2015

One of the most fun games I have ever watched beginning to end.

Re: Stanford ND Game thread - Spiny_Norman - 11-28-2015

This is what the FG sounded like from field level.  Turn up your volume to 11.

Re: Stanford ND Game thread - BostonCard - 11-28-2015

That was certainly one of the most fun games I've been to.  The stadium was rocking!  What an amazing atmosphere!

And I can't think of a better 40th birthday present for me.

How big was Scarlett's strip.  Where would Stanford be without him?

+100 to this.

I'd love to see a clip of his highlights throughout the season. He's been an absolute warrior--I wonder where this team would be if not for his transfer. He and Shittu have had really nice seasons, especially considering these were guys that a lot of people thought of as injury-prone.

When the margin is two points, lots of plays loom large in retrospect, from stopping Notre Dame in the red zone three times, to stopping them from converting the two-point conversion.  Not to mention our three actual stops: the strip, and the two three-and-outs we forced in the fourth quarter.

Just for my personal edification I guess, but can't a word like Cardinal be treated as a collective noun and therefore the verb form was correct?

Re: Stanford ND Game thread - washingtonismoney - 11-28-2015

On the DBs: the safeties...are interesting. With the Holder/Harris-less bunch we've been trotting out, Murphy looks passable...but Alexander has looked dire the past two weeks, and it seems like opponents make a special effort to pick on him. (Then again, given the general averageness-at-best of the defense, it seems like opponents can do whatever they'd like and succeed.)

Meeks looks solid.

So while I'd be happier with both Harris and Holder coming back, even getting one healthy corner installed would be a nice boost.

Projecting forward, it'll hurt to lose Harris but I'm confident in the corners and nickel. At safety, the question to me is how fast Reid improves -- I think he'll be excellent eventually, but the question is on what timetable.
