If and when there is such information I may think differently. But he has stated that he is leaving his team before the end of the season to focus on the draft. You are making assumptions and attempting to rationalize with zero basis in fact. I take him at his word, I'm disappointed in him, and I criticize him for making a poor decision.

It's just disrespectful to the seniors especially the ones who are likely done playing football.
It's disrespectful to ALL of his teammates, his coaches, and the fans. More than anything else, I'm disappointed in him for making a bad decision. But that's all it is - one bad decision. He's made a lot of good ones too - let's not forget that.

I'm curious, what's your criteria for a bad decision in this case?

Winflop can answer this one for himself, but my guess is that he thinks a bad decision is one solely based on maximizing the expected value of your future NFL earnings.

The amount of money a healthy CMac will donate back to Stanford over the lifetime of a fulfilled NFL career should surely outweigh the financial benefit of one decent Sun Bowl.
While I sympathize with alumni who made travel plans solely for CMac's final Stanford performance, it is what it is. We will still get to see the Stanford Cardinal take on the UNC Tar Heels. And I'm still going to the game.
I do think CMac should have immediately announced his plans to forgo the bowl game as soon as he declared for the draft, possibly just after the bowl selections were announced. I'm guessing the AD selfishly told him not to do that.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think that is a pretty safe statement, because after travel costs and all, I'd be surprised if Stanford makes very much money out of a Sun Bowl appearance.

From today's Mercury News:
Quote:One of the greatest players in Stanford history was less than enthusiastic about the news that tailback Christian McCaffrey will skip the Sun Bowl.Â
Hes thinking about life after Stanford; hes not thinking about Stanford anymore, said former Cardinal running back Darrin Nelson, a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.
I guess thats OK. But he has the opportunity he has because of Stanford. I cant imagine doing that. You come to Stanford and sign up to play football, you play football, and that means all the games ...
Im disappointed because I wanted to see him play.
Husak was more supportive.
Quote:It comes down to: What is your goal, said Todd Husak, Stanfords radio analyst and a former all-conference quarterback. "The NFL has been (McCaffreys) goal since he was a kid. With one game separating him from the NFL, that game represents a risk."
Plunkett:
Quote:I wish he would play, but I understand why hes not, said former quarterback Jim Plunkett, Stanfords only Voldemort Trophy winner. I wish him the best. Hes done a lot for Stanford.
I sense a reluctance to criticize someone who has done so much for Stanford, but still a sense of disappointment.

As anyone who follows you on twitter has seen you do consistently since it was announced.
I personally respect the kid for this. He is not quitting on his team, they have been universally supportive of him on social media. It was fun to watch him for three years, take what you got from it and remember you have not walked in his shoes.

Team means a lot to me. However, I just don't get this from the fans. If the players feel like he quit on them that is different.
We are fans, he owes us nothing. We have no claim on his life, judge him how you will, but I have increased respect for him after this. I respect honesty above all else, perhaps why I am a not the first person asked to give performance reviews to my staff. He was honest with his team and with his fans. That I respect.
I played lacrosse and rugby at LSJU. I was out of money for school entering senior year. I took 25 units fall and winter quarter just to get out without having to borrow more money. This means I could not play spring quarter. Granted I was not a star, and not even a starter in rugby.
So does that mean I quit on my teams by doing what was best for me, or does this only apply to our star athletes?

No disrespect, but no one paid to watch you play, and you didn't receive a scholarship. So your quitting is completely understandable. I quit too, under the exact same circumstances. What I don't understand is why we're not allowed to express opinions or dissatisfaction, based upon your statement that CMAC is being honest.
