Am I correct that Stanford is not recruiting a QB for the 2019 class? And then Tanner McKee will enter with the 2020 class?

I don't think we are recruiting a QB for the 2019 class since we had Jack West in 2018 and Tanner McKee in 2020. No QB offers out so far. Almost all of the 4-star QBs have committed somewhere.

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 07-02-2018

Technically we have not offered a 2019 QB.   Hard to say if we will but haven’t  yet.

Monster weekend!

Any insight on how the competition is doing w/ recruiting? Particularly interested in Chip's progress w the baby cubs.

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 07-03-2018

I have not read the Rivals summary, but it is pretty clear why UCLA-ites might be uneasy.

As of the moment, according to 247, UCLA has four commits for 2019, all three stars, with an average rating of 85.90.
Those guys are ranked overall (by 247) as #525, 544, unranked, unranked. (I think they rank top 1000)

Hey, Bobk

Any shot here? https://twitter.com/myles_hint75/status/1013964918457098240

I thought he was all Michigan, but why release a Top 5 if you are all Michigan?  The fact Northwestern is on this list makes me think maybe Stanford actually does have a shot. Of course, Stanford and Northwestern aren't usually in the same Top 5 with Clemson, Michigan, and Georgia.

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 07-03-2018

Yes.   He’s a 2020

Yes.   He’s a 2020

RE: Class of 2019 - Phogge - 07-04-2018

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 07-04-2018

We already have one Bosco DB, so can we get a second?

Who is the other?  Colby Bowman is a Bosco WR.

RE: Class of 2019 - OutsiderFan - 07-10-2018

This recruiting board feels like a place for talking to myself sometimes.  It would be really nice if more people joined in, even if just to share opinions and perspectives when there isn't any breaking news. Anywho...

I notice there are a few Michigan predictions on 247's CB for WDE Aeneas DiCosmo recently, a after a string of Stanford predictions  But I also see some more Stanford picks for Michigan commit WDE Stephen Herron Jr. recently too. Moreover, Josh Pakola, who is as much of a Stanford lock as anyone can be right now, is also a WDE just like DiCosmo and Herron Jr.

Could it be Herron Jr. is de-committing from Michigan, choosing Stanford, and DiCosmo will take his place at Michigan?

Also of note, is Laiatu Latu is also in play for Stanford. He is listed as an OLB, but the reality is he and Herron Jr. are more likely to be OLBs at Stanford given their body types. Pakola is listed at 6-3 and nearly 260 right now, and probably has potential to play DL at Stanford.

So does this mean Stanford is looking good for Herron Jr., Pakola, and Latu?  That would be a nice haul for Stanford. All are 4 star recruits, all Top 11 at their positions nationally.

OF, we're listening.  Keep posting.  :)

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 07-10-2018

My problem, which we have discussed off line, is that I’m on both the Bootleg and Rivals, so these things are discussed with facts.  Thus I can’t repeat them.

Great post outsider And would love to see more discussion here on recruiting.

See my post on the 2020 recruiting.  Which is well hidden here sadly

While discussion of individual recruits' tea leaves might be a TOS violation, general discussions of needs may be good fodder.  For example, it is my understanding that we are not targetting a QB this year (2019).  That seems... dangerous, and you would think that after the challenges we experienced in the aftermath of not recruiting a QB in 2016, that this staff might think that taking a flyer on a plan B QB in 2019 might be good insurance given that Costello could conceivably declare for the NFL after this year, Mills has been injured and is recovering from an ACL tear, and West is a true freshman.

I would feel better if we recruited a QB in the 2019 class.

Beyond that: offensive linemen, linebackers, and DB's are the positions of need; DB is looking good.  OL fine.

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 07-10-2018

That’s the thing BC never say never on a QB.   So I say no more except:
Richardson may be better than any QB who could get accepted.  Just my thought
Only.

RE: Class of 2019 - Phogge - 07-10-2018

BC, what do you see in Costello that I don’t see?

If Costello heads to the NFL after this fall it will be kind of bittersweet. Bitter because it will leave the 2019 QB situation dicey. Hopefully Mills gets healthy and lives up to his high school billings. Sweet because it will mean that KJ has had a real kick butt year, which presumably will mean we have had a real kick butt season.
If we take a QB for 2019 I hope it isn't just a Plan B type who will ride the pines and serve as an insurance policy. I think Richardson is capable of assuming that role.

RE: Class of 2019 - Extra Point - 07-11-2018

When ever I look at the uncommitted Stanford offerees on 247, I always scan their offer lists for high academic schools. Recruits that have a high percentage of academic schools in thier list are much more likely to complete the application process and get accepted. And, when an offeree's top priorities are playing football at a high level and getting a great education there is only one choice: Stanford. This summer there are more uncommitted recruits than normal that fit this profile:

Aeneas Dicosmo
Kenan Christon
Kaiir Elam
Elijah Higgins
Cornelius Johnson
Jonathan McGill
Tymon Mitchell
Ryan Sanborn
Tristan Sinclair
Maninoa Tufono
