Gordon Caplan??

here's his plea agreement from Mar 2019

https://www.justice.gov/usao-ma/page/file/1152636/download

some of the others are here

https://www.justice.gov/usao-ma/investigations-college-admissions-and-testing-bribery-scheme

the points for each of the two already sentenced and Caplan

- Huffman with 9, she got 14 days
- Sloane with 14,  he got 4 months
- Caplan with 11, I'd guess he gets 2-3 months based on his score being between the other two

all three of them get a base level of 7 points, then 4 to 10 points depending on how much they spent, then a reduction of 2 or 3 points for accepting responsibility for the crimes

Semprevino (sp?) got 4 months sentenced. His bribe was the highest so far. Higher fine and more service time, I think tho.

Quote:A Los Angeles businessman was sentenced Thursday to four months in prison for paying $400,000 to get his son into Georgetown University as a fake tennis recruit. Stephen Semprevivo, 53, pleaded guilty in May to a single count of fraud and conspiracy in a deal with prosecutors.

he had 16 points, so 2 more points than Sloane who also got 4 months

those awaiting sentences have between 7 and 21 points in their plea agreements

In addition to fines etc they should all get at least 90 days in Gen Pop.  None of this white-collar jail and community service BS.

Quote:A Napa Valley winemaker facing sentencing Friday in the national college admissions cheating scandal has asked the judge for a two-month sentence — half as long as those given two other parents last week and a fraction of the 15 months prosecutors are seeking.

Among Agustin F. Huneeus’ arguments for leniency? Unlike some of the dozens of other parents implicated in the scheme, the daughter he’d helped cheat on her SAT and falsify a water polo profile didn’t get accepted to the University of Southern California because of his arrest.

“Due to the timing of the charges, his daughter was never ultimately admitted to USC,” Huneeus’ lawyers argued in a sentencing memorandum, “thus she never ‘took a spot’ from some other more deserving applicant.”

They're lawyers, what would expect? Throw everything imaginable against the wall and hopefully, something sticks.

RE: Alleged large-scale test-cheating ring to get athletes into Stanford, other schools - oldalum - 10-03-2019

yeah, I'm not sure the argument for leniency that "I was late to the scheme so I got caught sooner" is going to hold much sway with the judge.

Caplan also lost his very lucrative partner position at Willkie Farr, a major law firm. And now, with a felony conviction, I would think it's likely that he will be disbarred.

you can only see the points for published plea agreements

they are linked at the bottom of this page

https://www.justice.gov/usao-ma/investigations-college-admissions-and-testing-bribery-scheme

as an example for Felicity Huffman

Quote:Sentencing Guidelines The United States Attorney agrees, based on the following calculations, that Defendant's total "offense level" under the Guidelines is 9:

a) Defendant's base offense level is 7, because Defendant is pleading guilty to an offense of conviction that has a statutory maximum term of imprisonment of 20 years or more (USSG § 2B1.1(a)(1));

b) Defendant's offense level is increased by 4, because the gain or loss from the offense of conviction is more than $15,000 but not more than $40,000 (USSG § 2B1.1(b)(1)©); and

c) Defendant's offense level is decreased by 2, because Defendant has accepted responsibility for her crime (USSG §3E1.1(a)).

and Stephen Semprevivo

Quote:Sentencing Guidelines The parties ,agree. based on the following calculations, that Defendant's total - offense level" under the Guidelines is 16:

a) Defendant's base offense level is 7, because Defendant is pleading guilty to an offense of conviction that has a statutory maximum term of imprisonment of20 years or more (USSG § 2131.1(01));

b) Defendant's offense level is increased by 12, because the gain or loss from the offense of conviction is more than $250,000 but not more than $550,000 (USSG § 2B1.1(b)(1)(G)); and

c) Defendant's offense level is decreased by 3, because Defendant has accepted responsibility for his crime (USSG §3E1.1).

the main differences in the agreements I looked at are in

b) has different dollar ranges for how many points you get, a higher dollar range gets you more points

c) some people got a 2 point reduction and some a 3 point reduction (no idea why)

Very long, somewhat interesting article on the impact of the scandal on a kid who didn't get a scholarship. The stunner was the tidbit that Don Kennedy, Ted Mitchell, and Fred Hargadon all served on Singer's board of advisors. That's some Stanford connection. . . .

While it's a well reported story, one asterisk -- I do find it a bit hard to believe a 5'11" guy is a top, top tennis prospect unless the rest of his game is amazing. (Which the description of his tools -- strong forehand + serve; weak backhand -- does not suggest.) Anyway, that's mostly me being persnicketty.
