He'd get a medical scholarship, which doesn't count for the 85 football scholarships.

The guaranteed four-year scholarship is mostly an anti-cutting measure, as a lot of coaches particularly down SEC way essentially cut players in order to make room for new players.

Here's a handy link through Rivals -- the offer list. For some reason I can't actually navigate to it through the site anymore, but my bookmark from two years ago still works. So this is kind of a top secret, backdoor, hacker kind of thing.

Who's next? Bentley Spain, we hope. Otherwise, who knows.

Re: Class of 2014 - Hey - 07-15-2013

This class looks like it could be DE heavy.  There are at least five more who are seriously considering Stanford, and three of them have Stanford #1.

Bo Pelini.  Wotta tool.  Actually, I can see waiting until you can see the kid perform up close in a school's own camp.  I just like verbally abusing Pelini.  Kinda reads like Omaha.com writer shares my view.

I can't stand Bo Pelini. Harrison's rejection of Nebraska is just icing on the cake. 8)

I wasn't able to get to this Rivals website (subscription required). But 247 also posts offers at http://stanford.247sports.com/Season/2014-Football/Offers.  They list the 72 offers for 2014 that Stanford has made. Of these,

8  have committed to Stanford
26 have committed to other schools
23 are uncommited and have expressed no interest ("cool" in 247 terminology)
11 are interested (warm")
3  are quite interested ("warmer")
1  safety Devin Williams has only received only one offer - from Stanford

I would guess that our next commit will come from Devin Williams or one of the 3 "warmer" offerees. Stanford is listed as the only "warmer" school for

defensive end Garrett Dickerson
defensive end Nifae Lealao
athlete Bobby Okereke

Re: Class of 2014 - StannyBoy - 07-15-2013

Devin Williams had his offer pulled. He's a 5 foot 9 and 180 lbs LB. Harbaugh had offered him when he was a freshman for some reason.

Re: Class of 2014 - BobK - 07-15-2013

9 commits with our 2012 OG on a mission.    8)

Re: Class of 2014 - Bruce Wang - 07-15-2013

What's the potential size of this class?

Re: Class of 2014 - rudruff - 07-15-2013

Given how small last year's was, I thought it would be in the 20's.

Re: Class of 2014 Twitter Exchange btw Phillips and Thomas - Bruce Wang - 07-15-2013

Solomon Thomas ‏@SollyThomas90 1h
S/O to my boy @horribleharry99 for committing today!

Harrison Phillips ‏@horribleharry99 1h
@SollyThomas90 I need you next to me on the dline brother

Solomon Thomas ‏@SollyThomas90 1h
@horribleharry99 yes sir!

When Harry Met Solly!  Can we count that as a commit?

20-25, I'd say, depending on how many people go to the draft, uninvited fifth years, other attrition.

Re: Class of 2014 - Extra Point - 07-15-2013

"23 are uncommited and have expressed no interest ("cool" in 247 terminology)"

I certainly wouldn't count out a recruit with a "cool" rating. The warm and warmer ratings are assigned when a recruit indicates that a shool is a favorite. Cool ratings are then given to the remaining schools. It doesn't necessarily mean a recruit has paired down his list. One of these 23 recruits you mention has a cool rating for all of the schools in his list. Finally, in the past recruits have suddenly become "warmer" when they are admitted. I fully expect to see this reaction many times in the future. Kids with interest in other schools with high academics are likley to react this way.

There's hope for you yet, publius.  Continue with your deprogramming.

If you ever wondered what desperation looks like - Redrum - 07-15-2013

there's this from Duke, a full-court press Coach K would be proud of,  but, it didn't work.  Proof?  Duke sent 115 hand-written letters to Phillips.  Note the Photoshopped suck-up page, featuring pics of Phillips going #1 in the NFL draft and reportedly sitting in a Ferrari after NFL draft day.

http://nebraska.scout.com/2/1292775.html

He committed too early.  He should have stayed uncommitted to see if he could break the mythical 500 Recruiting Letter Barrier.

Re: Class of 2014 - Hank 91 - 07-15-2013

And what about Dalton Schultz? After The Opening, it seemed like we might be hearing something from his relatively soon, and he seemed like a Stanford lean.

Re: Class of 2014 - Bruce Wang - 07-15-2013

I wonder if the early commits are the ones that are confident they will get past admissions and the rest are wait and see.  We might here from the likes of Joey Alfieri or Bobby Okereke, but it could be quiet for awhile on the recruiting front.  That's OK.  Only a couple more months and the season kicks off.

Re: Class of 2014 - yvonne - 07-15-2013

DE Lane Veach of Arizona (3-star on Scout; unranked on Rivals and 24/7) committed today per Rivals.

Re: Class of 2014 - Hey - 07-15-2013

Check that, now there's only four more DE prospects seriously considering Stanford.  ;)

Re: Class of 2014 - washingtonismoney - 07-15-2013

Veach is an OLB prospect per Drukarev (https://twitter.com/StanfordRivals/status/356982777159225344)

Here's a free article on Veach from Drukarev: http://stanford.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1525405

A quote that may explain his relative lack of exposure:

Quote:After missing much of his junior season with a wrist injury, Arizona outside linebacker Lane Veach was still largely an unkown prosect on the national scale heading into the summer.

Schools like Stanford liked what they saw of Leach, but wanted to see more.

"With only playing like five games last year, I haven't had that much exposure as of yet," Veach told Cardinal Sports Report last month. "Word of mouth gets out really quick about me, but not based on much of my game play because I only had five games with a broken hand last year."

And highlight tape: http://www.hudl.com/athlete/1113484/highlights/39157373 (be patient with the video).

He can really scoot.

EDIT: also note that 247's reporter who saw him in camp described him as "super athletic" (http://247sports.com/Board/30/Stanford-camp-notes-19407702/1#a19408050).
