Commentary on Colby Parkinson from the Opening camp:
Quote:Colby Parkinson, TE, Thousand Oaks (Calif.) Oaks Christian - Parkinson is a five-star candidate as a tight end. He's 6-foot-7, 230 pounds with great body control and movement skills. He is the ultimate mismatch at the tight end spot because of his massive frame, vertical speed and box-out ability. The Stanford commit got invited to The Opening Finals and he'll have a shot at earning a fifth star there.
(also has brief mention of Fisk and 2018 QB Blake Stenstrom.)

Wow, with Parkinson blowing up, Stanford could have a Top 10 class in 2017 even if it's small, given the star power that could be in it. By my count, Stanford is in the mix for as many as seven 5 stars as this is posted:
QB Davis Mills (Stanford commit recruiting services say could be elevated to 5 stars)
TE Colby Parkinson (Stanford commit recruiting services say could be elevated to 5 stars)
DB Darnay Holmes (is a 5 star Stanford looks in good shape to land)
OT Foster Sarell (is a 5 star who seems to be a Washington-Stanford battle)
LB Nate McBride (is a 5 star with Stanford in Top 5)
DB Jeffrey Okudah (is a 5 star with Stanford in Top 5, though considered an Ohio State lean)
OG Wyatt Davis (is a 5 star with Stanford in Top 10)*
* Will having DeCastro and Garnett drafted in first round as Guards will pay dividends with a guy like Davis?

Ugh, Bama needs to keep their dirty hands off of recruits who could really blossom in an academic environment...

He has a Bama offer? His fifth star should be along promptly. Or does that only happen if he signs with Bama?

It would be funnier if it wasn't true.

This tells me that Saban now sees Stanford as more than just another pretty face. We are in his face (e.g. Mills) and he doesn't like it at all.

Boo-****ing-hoo. I'm sure he'll gladly trade off losing a few guys like Mills and Parkinson who swim in Stanford's pool of available athletes, to be able to fish in his much larger pond of guys who can
and can't get into Stanford.

I don't think Saban is losing a lot of sleep over the fact that he is now competing with Stanford on the recruiting trail. I do find it appealing that he thinks some of our recruits are good enough to offer.

Tarik Black seems to be in the mix for a 5th star (at least on Rivals). Stanford was in his top 5 although UCLA appears to be his preference at the moment. It feels like Osiris St Brown is more likely for us at receiver (which would be great, especially if both brothers decided to come)..
As an aside, has anybody noticed that Nebraska has been recruiting a few of our top targets very hard (Holmes, Black)? I never thought of Mike Riley as a fan of flashy recruiting pitches, but maybe he just never had the staff/budget at OSU.

I think Nebraska is targeting Holmes because they have offered a number of his high school teammates.

Nebraska is targeting Holmes for the same reason that all the other schools are targeting Holmes. He's the top athlete in the nation. He scored touchdowns by rushing, receiving, fumble return, interception return, punt return, and kick return. There aren't many more ways you can score...
Re: Class of 2017 -

I think what rudruff meant was that the offers to multiple teammates indicate that Nebraska is pulling out all the stops to try to get him.
Re: Class of 2017 -

Yes, apparently a number of Calabasas players are getting/ have gotten Nebraska offers recently.
Re: Class of 2017 -

Aha, that makes more sense.
By the way, Stanford's QB commit, Davis Mills took the top rank at the Elite 11 Finals this weekend. The number 11 and the name Finals are both misleading. There were 24 and it's really the semis. The Finals with 12, oddly, is at the Opening in July.
