Not to be melodramatic, but that could be it for his Stanford career.

Very possible. Also possible he's OK by fall camp.

Has anyone ever returned to action from an ACL tear faster than Adrian Peterson's nine month recovery?
That won't happen if it is an ACL tear.  This is college and these kids are not on contract.    Standard recovery is much closer to a year.  And FWIW the next game is only 8 months away.  Even if he could recover that quickly he would miss spring and summer camp.  If it is an ACL tear, some other QB will be the 2017 starter in Sydney.

Bruce Feldman saying Keller tore his ACL: https://twitter.com/BruceFeldmanCFB/status/814993341880352768

Tough injury.
On TV that looked like the injury.  Would be nice if it is just a strain.  I am confident that the true extent of the injury will become clear in time.

In the game Chryst seemed to be proving that the 5-0 run was more than just about playing that weak set of opponents.  Have no doubt the game would have been won easily if he was on the field the whole game.

Burns either was not ready to be the next man up OR is just not really capable of running the Stanford system.  Either way doesn't matter now.  The spring session will become very important now, and any incoming QB should be mentally preparing to play in 2017 too as injuries happen.
Burns was the same QB today that he was earlier in the season. Meanwhile, Chryst is a much better QB now than he was when he took over following the Colorado game. The disparity between the two was apparent today.

If it's a true ACL tear, then Costello needs to wake up tomorrow morning believing he's the new starting QB for Stanford, and function accordingly.

So does this mean we now have the two best Pac12 OOC wins so far this year?

Definitely the best one until SC beats Penn State.

Famous last words but I expect SC will wreck Penn State.

Re: Sun Bowl Game Thread - OutsiderFan - 12-30-2016

I think the fact UNC beat Florida State may factor in to Stanford's final ranking, which I believe will be above Colorado's final ranking.

I think you're underestimating Penn State.

Re: Sun Bowl Game Thread - stupac2 - 12-30-2016

That sounded like it was fun, but I was stuck at work and followed along here and via ESPN's gamecast (when I could even do that). So, anyone know where a fan in need could watch a replay? Pac-12 Nets might have it eventually, right?

Anyway, Chryst's injury is brutal. Everyone else just get dinged? Any word? It's really amazing how bad this season has been injury-wise.

Not an SC fan but rooting hard for them; would be a strong statement for a Pac-12 team to thrash Penn State, who had many advocates for being in the playoff ahead of UW.

Toohill got cut blocked and went down. He walked off the field but I don't know that he returned. Don't recall seeing him afterward.

Meeks went down on UNC's final drive. But I think it was just a cramp. UNC tried to exploit Meeks' absence by picking on Buncom. But Meeks was back for the final 2 point conversion play.

So do the cardboard's woofing gods care about SC?

Oh, I didn't know that.

If that's true, then I think SC is going to rock Penn State's world.  The Trojans are going to prove that they were just unlucky on that opening weekend.  They SHOULD beat Penn State by 35 or more points.  For sure.  Penn State will be lucky to get 6 points.  Final score 49-3.

;D

Re: Sun Bowl Game Thread - OutsiderFan - 12-30-2016

Sorry, but I can't ever root for evil, so F Southern Cal.

Disclaimer:  Though I root against Southern Cal, I really do have a lot of respect for Penn State as a team.  They impressed the hell out of me in the Big Ten championship game.

Re: Sun Bowl Game Thread - washingtonismoney - 12-30-2016

This may invite future punishment from the woof gods, but I would, of course, prefer SC lose. Nevertheless I think they'll win quite handily and we'll be hearing about 'em all offseason.

Re: Sun Bowl Game Thread - Spiny_Norman - 12-30-2016

Let's hear it for a resilient and tough Stanford team. The season was a slog from the very beginning.  Out of 13 games, the offense only scored 1 TD or fewer in 6 of them (including the Sun Bowl).  Yet they found a way to win 3 of those games (UCLA, ND and UNC).  For all of the critical comments about the defense, they held 12 of 13 opponents below their season scoring average. And Conrad Ukropina was the unsung hero of the season.  Congratulations to the team!

Love had 22 carries for 115 yards for an average fo 5.2.  That will work next season.

21 of those carries were for about 60 yards, or about a 3 yard average, which doesn't work so well.
Sort of like Barry Sanders' entire career. Love is a home run hitter and a good one.

Problem is that Scarlett has been disappointing thus far, if he lives up to his billing he would be the perfect complement to Love.
I agree 100% about Love in that he may have 8 carries for 30 yards and then he takes one 70 yards for a TD and suddenly he has 9 carries for 100 yards.  If you analyze the yards per carry of most top-level RBs, the great ones are able to break 1-2 long runs each game which inflates their average.  I'll take such a player on my team.

The snail just won the Sun Bowl with his second string QB and second string running back.

I think the snail was just a bystander.

So Shaw is just a bystander and Bryce Love isn't that good as a RB?

If you can watch the Sun Bowl and think that Stanford is firing on all the offensive cylinders, more power to you.

Re: Sun Bowl Game Thread - washingtonismoney - 12-30-2016

Yeah, generally difficult to fire on all cylinders when they're broken down.
