Are you suggesting admissions may be difficult for him?  The kid has been touting Stanford and how much he wants to go there, for quite a while.

No, he's suggesting that not all of "Herron Jr., Pakola, Latu, and DiCosmo" will be in the final class plus there is no guarantee that Joey Alfieri is the only OLB who will not be back in 2019. So your assumption of 15 OLB is probably incorrect.

This is why I asked about what position Pakola was being recruited to play. And Bob did answer that, when he said he believes Pakola will play DE if he comes to Stanford.

And you posted that you think DiCosmo is still a Stanford possibility. The only guy that would leave out among those four is Latu. Are you saying Latu isn't going to get into Stanford?

I'm saying that until they are admitted and committed, there is a brobdingnagian gap between saying they are "still a Stanford possibility" and saying they are one of 15 future outside linebackers.  We usually have some non-zero admissions attrition between the summer and signing day, and while it is possible to get a sense of who is at risk and who is likely admitted, you can't pencil anyone in until they have submitted an application and gotten a response.

RE: Class of 2019 - Bosco - 07-25-2018

I hope we land all of them (Latu, Pakola, DiCosmo, Sinclair). We constantly need help on the defensive front and our past defensive recruiting has not been easy. I believe which exact role they will play can be flexible and will not worry about the exact position we recruit anyone of them for.

Anyway, Latu and Pakola will make their decision on Jan 19, 2019. No matter how much we debate/guess about their admission status, interests...etc, they will make decision best for themselves. And people change their mind all the time. So I would be more interested in other prospects who may visit/commit recently (ex: Sinclair)

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 07-26-2018

Thanks BC.  All I can do is hints
I will say to BCs post 3 of 4 ain’t bad.

Sinclair is a LB.   Probably ILB.

I don't have any inside info, but every year it is the same thing.  Guys who showed a lot of interest suddenly drop us.  A previously committed candidate re-opens their recruitment.  Someone retakes the SAT a half-dozen times.  Every. Single. Year.  Not sure why anyone would think this wouldn't happen this year.

And as always, it's not the guys we miss on that matter; it's what we get out of the guys we sign.

Today a top recruit announces. I think it's about 1PM.

Sinclair is making a public commitment announcement at 4pm ET today. He isn't a Top 10 ranked recruit to my knowledge, though he is a 4-star on 247 and #16in CA. Rivals doesn't think nearly as highly of him, as he is only ranked a 3 star and #46 in CA.

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 08-01-2018

Sinclair is a Californian so that’s 1pm :)

A nice interview with Sinclair's dad, Andy, about his time at Stanford and afterward - https://cardreider.wordpress.com/2017/10/02/football-catching-up-with-former-cardinal-offensive-lineman-andy-sinclair/

RE: Class of 2019 - OutsiderFan - 08-01-2018

Where is the excitement? Tristan Sinclair is a significant talent who has both short area quickness, and speed, which is pretty rare.  If he can add about 20 pounds before taking the field he could be a sideline to sideline tackling machine at ILB the like of which Stanford has rarely seen.

Was really hoping Stanford would land Kane Patterson (Ohio State commit) and Sinclair, but just Sinclair is nothing to complain about.

I'm excited.  I liked his commitment tweet.

Cheers,

Sinclair is a stud and I'm beyond pumped to have him in the class. 2nd best short shuttle time in the entire country...just an absolute dynamite athlete at a position of extreme need, ILB. However, he picked an unfortunate day to commit; Urban Meyer is the talk of the CFB world right now.

Don't look now, but it wouldn't surprise me if the current Urban Meyer debacle shakes things up recruiting-wise. There are Stanford targets committed to/considering Ohio State that may be affected.

RE: Class of 2019 - martyup - 08-01-2018

That Urban Meyer story is scary. So glad we have Shaw.

RE: Class of 2019 - BobK - 08-01-2018

I think the Meyer story is OT and nothing to do with either Sinclair committing nor our recruiting.  Thank you

You sound rational.

I just noticed that the offer letter shows a rendering of the recipient in a Stanford uniform.  Nice touch.

And FWIW, Aeneas DiCosmo retweeted Tristan Sinclair's commitment announcement.

Geaux Cardinal!

RE: Class of 2019 - OutsiderFan - 08-02-2018

In one of the Sinclair commitment stories it mentioned a connection between him, Jones and Pakola. Though Pakola isn't making a public commitment until January (with Latu at the Polynesian Bowl), it seems we can pencil him in for Stanford based on publicly available information.

Let's talk LB takes for 2019. I'm assuming Stanford wants four; 2 OLB, 2 ILB, but that is just a guess.
In the fold
OLB: Herron Jr.
ILB: Sinclair

Other seemingly high possibilities*
OLB: DiCosmo

Other possibilities
OLB: Latu

* Considering Pakola as DE

Sinclair is the only ILB recruit I'm aware of other than Kane Patterson who chose Ohio State. Are there any other ILB possibilities on the radar, and who are they?
