You are paying an entry fee for a game of skill.

That's true about poker too, so I'm not sure why it's relevant.
And, from what I've read, daily fantasy sports
aren't legal. IIRC the fantasy-specific carve-out in the bill that banned most other online gaming required that the payouts not be related to the total amount of the pay-in, which the daily fantasy sites don't actually comply with. That may be wrong (and I can't remember where I read it so I can't check to see if I'm misremembering), but it wouldn't surprise me even a little bit if those sites weren't legal and they either get busted or change their model significantly.

Ah. Unlike using my skill at analyzing football teams, this one means using my skill at analyzing football players and defenses. I see. Very clever these Americans. Tomorrow I will pay an entry fee for another game of skill. Lotto. To the next post: I better cash in quick before they ban this. Do I have to report my winnings?

Yeah, I think poker should be classified as a game of skill and legalized. But of course I'm not in charge of the law. Anyway, as you say, there are some legal gray areas but who knows.

I think the "know it when I see it" standard should be enough to get these companies off the market, but who knows.

That line is preposterous. Maybe if the game were in Berkeley, but at altitude with the sieve that is the Low APR U defense? I wish my wife were still in Reno I'd have put down a good amount on the Utes at that spread.
Speaking of gambling. . . Would someone explain to me why all these real money fantasy site, e.g. FanDual, are legal but it is illegal to bet on games online? I don't get it.

Fantasy games are deemed to be games of skill, not games of luck. Similar to why there are card rooms with various kinds of poker in many parts of the country but not full-blown casinos.
