Re: Today in opponents - Leftcoast - 10-22-2015

To paraphrase our ex-coach, "The Bears were who we thought they were".

Re: Today in opponents - washingtonismoney - 10-22-2015

59ers doing a QB keeper down 23? (now 17). Doesn't seem smart to me, but then again, I'm not S'onny.

Re: Today in opponents - martyup - 10-22-2015

UCLA up 40 - 16.  What, if anything, does this say about Utah?

You stole my line.  UCLA just has to make sure that the follow up line, "and we let them off the hook" doesn't come to pass.

Kills me that the announcers are still gushing about Goff when he's down 24 points.

Re: Today in opponents - washingtonismoney - 10-22-2015

59ers are deciding to run Goff like crazy. Down 24. This is irresponsible coaching.

Re: Today in opponents - BostonCard - 10-22-2015

Through three quarters, Cal as a team has 91 yards rushing.
Through three quarters, McCaffrey broke the Stanford rushing record.

One fumble, one fumble recovery for 59ers! They may stink but they're still (turnover) lucky.

Re: Today in opponents - BostonCard - 10-22-2015

Up 40-16 in the fourth quarter and UCLA still has Rosen throwing the ball?

Re: Today in opponents - washingtonismoney - 10-22-2015

Dunno why the 59ers are so sure Yikes won't take them to the Rose Bowl. Aren't they playing there right now?

Re: Today in opponents - winflop - 10-22-2015

Not only will Yikes not take them to the Rose Bowl, he may not take them above .500

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if they finish 6-6, lose their bowl game, and it wouldn't surprise me if Yikes either leaves on his own or gets fired.  Without Goff next year they are gonna suck once again.  And it makes me smile  8)

So horribly overrated.  Still lacking a quality win in the Yikes era.

That ought to teach me to have any faith in the Bears.  Man, was that a spectacular fail by Cal, which I guess is redundant.

This may not be the reason, but Rosen has just broken the UCLA record for completions in a game.

There was entirely too much faith in Cal on this board. Plenty of warning signs that they were a paper tiger.

Yup. They're 3-1 in close games and have plenty of turnovers luck. Classic formula of a lucky team.

Re: Today in opponents - stupac2 - 10-22-2015

Why call a timeout there? Why why why.

Dykes is a shithead. Just go down with some dignity.

Re: Today in opponents - needle - 10-22-2015

When I think about Kal and the trajectory of that program, I always think about their offensive and defensive coordinators.

On offense, they have Tony Franklin, whose bio highlights his glory days as a running backs coach at Kentucky. Before signing on with Dykes at La. Tech, he was at a Sun Belt school, Troy. He's 58-years-old.

On defense, they have Art Kaufman, 57. Kaufman parlayed six seasons as defensive coordinator at Mississippi into holding the same title at Arkansas Tech. He then returned to being a position coach for eight years at powerhouses East Carolina, Middle Tennessee, Southern Miss and North Carolina. He finally got back into a coordinator role, serving one-year stints at NC, Texas Tech and Cincinnati before arriving at Kal.

I just contrast this with the coordinators/assistant coaches under Harbaugh and Shaw, many of whom are now head coaches or in the NFL: Taggart, Shafer, Roman, Fangio, Hamilton, etc.

If Lance Anderson or Bloomgren were to decide to leave, do you think they would be wanting for a lack of coordinator opportunities? No way.

The group over at Kal just seems underwhelming by comparison. Maybe I'm spoiled because of the success I've seen Stanford assistants have.
