Notr.e D.ame depended on four star players. Stanford depended on 35 or 40 Stanford Men. You do the math. Very proud of those men.

Just curious... Anyone think we might have benefitted from the clock operator on the kick? I could have sworn the clock was down to 1 second when the kick went through, and was worried that we'd have to kick off to them. But then it was all zeros.

My second-guessing of Shaw was based less on the clock management than the failure to throw on the preceding two drives, which (if successful) would've given Stanford a two-score cushion. Ah well.

There will be hell to pay if 2 loss Stanford jumps a 1 loss UNC that just took out #1. So that's three spots. Go Gators!!! Buckeyes lurk.
Not dead yet. Tuesday's ranking will be very interesting.
Stanford wouldn't be jumping UNC. We are number 9, they are 14. And we just beat the number 6 team.
Check out UNC's schedule. I don't believe they have beaten one team ranked in the Top 25. I am more worried about us jumping Clemson than UNC.
If we beat USC and either Bama or Clemson lose, I think we're in.Â
That is secondary as I will be fully content with a Rose Bowl berth.

You aren't the only one BC. That last second sort of rolled off during the celebration it seemed. 45 yards is long, but not sure if 6 seconds long.

Let the playoff/bowl chips fall where they may.
All I know is that I will always remember the tv shot of Mr. Conrad Ukro-cool-as-an-effing-cucumber-pina walking over to the sideline when UDFG tried to ice him with their final timeout and him making a coach smile by cracking a joke... when I saw that, I just knew we had 'em ...that's my story and I'm sticking to it!Â

I read online that Shaw actually called the timeout with 1 second to play. The TV graphic just didn't reflect that.

Just got home. I guess those of you watching on TV saw many things I didn't, like Conrad Ukropina being carried on his teammate's shoulders. But being there could not be beaten.
I sit on the shady side, upper bowl, around the 32 yard line. The two seats behind me have not been occupied this year, at least I've never seen anyone there. But today, there were two young N.D. fans - either students, or very recent grads. I won't say the word obnoxious, but let's just say they intended to make their presence known all game long. And of course, they were quite loud with 30 seconds to go. When the kick sailed through the uprights, I jumped up, my Stanford hat flying off, and when I turned around to get it, both N.D. fans were already out of their seats and just about to enter the aisle. Could not have been a better punctuation mark to this victory - seeing them enjoy their bile tonight.
Oh, one other thing. Going down to the field, I saw Mr. Ukropina (wearing a #34 jersey) in section 112. I shook his hand, and you bet I was not the first or last. I don't think he's going to sleep much tonight either.  :)

I was thinking that in real time too. ND has speed on the edges, those stretch runs were dicey all night. But Hogan was completing passes at will. It's hard to argue too much given that we won, but man if we hadn't...

On replay clock was at 0:02 when the ball hit the net.
Kickoff would have been scary.

N.D. sold out to stop the run -- blitzing like crazy, bringing the safeties cloooossseee to the line of scrimmage. Hogan should've attempted 5-10 more passes that game. How many screens were there? One, I think?
I'm not a big fan of criticizing play calling, but Shaw's in-game offensive strategy left something to be desired. I think he left points on the board against a pretty unsound defense.

Hard to complain when we put up more points against Notre Dame than any other team this season...

Well, sure, but an extra TD or two makes this a much less stressful, and more impressive, game.

I'll take the memorable last-second field goal win over a 10 point win any day. This is game we'll remember as fans for a long time to come. Yeah it's more stressful, but this was one of the best games in all of college football all year. I'll take the memories baby!

The first Stanford game that I remember seeing live was against ND in 1999. Stanford kicked a walk-off FG to win. I mentioned this memory at half-time to a friend; her response, "maybe this one will turn out the same way." I wasn't able to catch it live but this is one that I'll remember.
Debate game-management and play calling all you want; this team is sitting at 10-2 and has put together quite the memorable season. I'm basking in this win and probably won't get to sleep until 3AM.

I think the players called time out immediately after McCaffrey was down. I'm not sure who they gave credit to.
