After watching many decades of Stanford football I thought I'd never see a runner/receiver/returner as absolutely electrifying as Darrin Nelson... but now I have. That he's as modest and self-effacing is a brobdingnagian credit to them both.

His immediate response to praise for the three ways he scored was to point out Hogan's accomplishment. I can't remember where I read this, but apparently in one post-game interview or another he was told that his brother won their state title yesterday; he seemed more excited about that than his own accomplishment. As a Soph he has left the Stanford and Pac12 record books in shambles. The single season records may very well be eventually set so high by him they will seem out of reach, not to mention career records. They will eventually be broken, of course, but maybe like Sanders' . . . Not for a very long time.

Receiving: 41 receptions, 540 yards, 13.17 per reception
Kick Returns: 36 kick returns, 1042 yards, 28.94 per kick return
Punt Returns: 14 punt returns, 67 yards, 4.79 per punt return
Total: 410 touches, 3496 yards, 8.53 per touch

Best running back . . . "But not by a lot" is putting it mildly. Henry 5.9 ypc, McCaffrey 5.8 ypc. To call Henry the best player assumes McCaffrey played patsies all year, which is what I read several rabid SECers write. The only thing I haven't heard/read is the race card which was sparingly used against Toby.

I don't think this has been posted anywhere but the guys at Pro Football Focus has graded the running backs and CMac grades out better than Henry (and this was before this weekend).

I DVR'd the entire PAC12 Championship. Following a Sunday day of rest, I have begun, this morning, playing the replay. I will likely watch it repeatedly, rewinding and re-watching at will the oh-so-many-to-count plays and performances (...CMcC does come to mind) by the black and red. During this time, I expect to be continuously smiling to no one in particular, while my wife attempts to explain my howling to the dog.

I agree that McCaffrey should win the Voldemort but I'm trying not to spend much time thinking about it because I know that he won't and it likely won't even be close. I'll add that McCaffrey's snub won't irk me nearly as much as Griffin's win over Luck in 2011. That was truly a travesty.

The announcement for the finalists will be tonight on ESPN apparently. I think we're hoping for more finalists, which would be an indication of a more divided landscape. I think CMAC is more likely to get 2nd place votes over Henry where regional voters put their guy first.

I think this is right, it's probably a better sign for us if it ends up being McCaffrey, Henry, Cook, Watson, and Elliot than just Henry and McCaffrey.

I think my favorite stat- and apologies if this has been posted somewhere- is that McCaffrey has more total APY than four football teams' entire offense for the year (Missouri, UCF, Boston College, Kent St.). That's really incredible.

I would vote for Toby's snub being an even bigger travesty, but only by a little.Â

I remember Robert Smith on air saying that Toby didn't deserve it because his team was not top 10, despite his having much better stats. Then, for Luck two years later, somehow being a top team didn't matter. That's why I'm convinced McCaffrey doesn't have a chance.

I'm also betting there's a feeling the Stanford players already have it so nice because they're rich and go to Stanford, so the award should go to someone from a less affluent school. That'll teach our players' parents for being smart with their finances and raising intelligent children!

I think the West overwhelmingly is for CMac. Midwest is about even with CMac and Elliott. CMac is second to Watson in Atlantic (voters want Watson so they vote CMac #2 and Henry #3) and Henry wins in Southeast.

I hope Keenan Reynolds from Navy makes the finalist list, just so that he flies straight from the Army-Navy game to New York in a helicopter. That would be be about as badass as his game helmet. (More badass if he flew it himself, but he isn't qualified.)
California has one-eighth of the U.S. population, so CMac should win in a landslide. ;)
