I'll believe it when I see it. Recruiting doesn't always produce results on the field, sometimes through no fault of the players or coaches. It's hard to put those expectations on a freshman.

Very true and something one always must keep in mind when looking at recruiting rankings. But I have to wonder, how much of our overplaying our ranking is due to finding the guys who were missed, and how much is due to the staff's ability to develop players? Surely it's a combination (don't call me Shirley), but if the more important factor is the latter, can you imagine this team after these recent classes? It would truly be a sight to behold.

I think a third factor -- albeit a less important one -- is at play: our guys are much less likely to be attrited than other teams'.

All of the above--our kind of recruit is more likely to stay, self-develop (!!), and be receptive to coaching.
All I'm saying is that physical specimens like Murphy, Gardner, Skov, and Mauro don't just walk through the doors every year. Those guys were molded in the crucible of Stanford Football and became very talented players. (In fact, all those guys were nowhere near where they are now when they walked through the doors. Everyone's come a long way.)

Props to Farm93 on his prognostication! Shaw's 2-loss seasons with BCS bowl games scenario has played out. I agree with others that Skov, Murphy and Mauro are rare finds/developments, but I also think we have more strong talent than ever before. Depth is critical to making a run and I'm hoping the underclassmen are ready to take the mantle and reach for The Ring.  With a four team playoff starting this next year, we are going to be in the national discussion and I'm happy with that....for now!
Time to beat the Spartans soundly and set ourselves up for 2014. Can't wait!
